large vs small monitors in small room

Im wondering what is best for my situation here.

ive had to change my setup into a small room. 8' x 12' - so yeah - small

Ive currently got some 8" HS80m's, but im thinkin of selling them off and swappin over to some hs50's for the smaller space and more appropriate levels (i think)

but my question is what is better for a small space (if there is an answer) : larger monitors at a lower volume or smaller monitors pushed up a bit?

i do really like my hs80's but yeah if the 50's will do the same thing or be more appropriate, and give me some spare change then sweet..

Yeah that's a perfect sized room for 8" woofers. Rectangular room is preferable to square too, you should set the monitors up on one of the shorter walls to take advantage of more space behind you and less early reflections.

My studio is 7' x 7' and I had 10" woofers by Bass Acoustics for 9 long years until they gave up the ghost. Sound was great but now I copped a pair of 8" KRKs and the sound is extrordinary. Crisp and clean. Don't go small, I know they sell them small but they're made for those on a budget. Later on, you'll want those 8" woofers again.

yeah i got my 8 inchers up on their stands behind my desk and its all sounding and looking very good. glad i stuck with them..now just gotta make some acoustic panels and block up a window and its gonna be a very nice little room.

research up on the theory behind standing waves. in a small room low frequencies dont have enough space to complete a full cycle and so you may hear bass dropouts in some parts of the room. i have the same issue, i had to move from a studio to a storage room and i have almost nothing below 300hz. finding the sweet spot in the room will help but in small dimensions you will never get true accuracy, peace
