Now I'm thinking this might be a bug. The Ren Manual states on page 43

"In the MPC software, click on the MIDI PORT pop-up menu and select
the desired MIDI port, where the sequence data should be send to.
The pop-up list shows you every MIDI port available on your computer
system."

It actually only shows the 4 MIDI ports that were assigned in Preferences.

That's not a bug. The MPC Ren allows you to use up to 4 MIDI devices on your computer. You set this in MIDI preferences where it will show all devices. Your sequencer can only use the 4 devices you setup in Preferences.

When I'm layering a pad with sounds (4 slots) I would like to see the sample/file name on the hardware for each layer instead of having to look at the computer screen, on the hardware it just says sample1 sample2 sample3 sample4 and I have to look at the computer screen to see what samples I am selecting for each layer. Why not have the hardware also display the sample/file names for each layer? I don't like having to look at the computer screen all the time when doing this, I rather see what sounds are on the pad on the hardware screen.

In general, we need to be able to do a lot more things through the hardware, also to see more info on the hardware lcd, more control through the hardware without relying on the computer screen.

A way to see the numerical value of notes/sounds placed on the grid. I believe the 2000 or 4000 allowed this in the step sequencing area. It really helped to know if your sequencing was doing.

This must be a conflict with the manual versus what can actually be done, which is why I quoted the manual directly. If you read pages 42 - 43 in context, it would appear that

"In the MPC software, click on the MIDI PORT pop-up menu and select
the desired MIDI port, where the sequence data should be send to.
The pop-up list shows you every MIDI port available on your computer
system.
"

I kinda hope this will be in a future update and it was left in the manual on purpose.

I would like the see when a program is deleted all the sounds within that program are deleted as well... Not have to go to each sound and delete 1 by 1 so not cool...

Something I've noticed, and I'm wondering if anyone else has...

When using the threshold function, and the threshold set just above floor noise, when the music...lets just say a snare...is played, it starts recording. Great. But when you play the snare back, it may be missing the first half of the first modulation in the waveform, resulting in a pop. Like i said...with the threshold almost at the bottom, just about floor noise.

On my 2000xl, if I did the same thing, and even if when I played it back, it played the same thing, there was like a pre-record buffer (maybe half a second tops), that i could scroll back the start time, and catch the beginning of the sample that I wanted. Pro Tools does this too, when dealing with punching in. After you've recorded the the punch-in, if u wanna catch some of the air before the punch, or if the artist was singing along, you can pull back the start envelope and get audio that was sang before you actually hit record, maybe up to 2 seconds worth.

I hope I'm explaining this properly. I pretty much now have to manually hit record and stop for everything. An X millisecond recording buffer would be great.

MAC 10.7.2

I don't think this is a bug, but it's bugging me.

First you cannot create a new program and rename it via Hardware only software.
also in Hardware/Software browser i cannot select multiple samples and load them into memory only one by one? (tried shift+data wheel and shift +,+ on hardware) (tried shift and command on the mac)
it should be like mpcmaid just drag and drop multiple Samples to software pads, then hardware just hold shift, scroll or arrow down and press load.

Then say you have a existing .pgm file with 64 samples, you load that program then decide you don't want to use it, you can delete the .pgm but all the 64 samples are still in the memory. There's no sample purge in software/hardware and you cannot select multiple samples in the "project information" area in the main window to delete you have to delete 1 by 1.

I've only messed with it for about 1hour so far, I really hope I haven't spent enough time with her yet!
please tell me I'm trippin!

Also Noticed in Pad Assign you can hit the pad and change the color from red, yellow, green or orange thats nice but in order to assign a sound i have to use the cursor why can't we just hit the pad like to change pad color?

what happens when you press the browser button on the hardware and then hit the pad you want the sample on then scroll through the list and press F6 when you get to one you want to load?
