MPC1k-JJOS2XL vs. MPC4000

Hello,
i´m thinking about to get me a second MPC.
I need a second unit to record my jams from my 1k. ( my 1k is my recorder for everything)
i like to have a second unit just for recording and cutting without the need to hop between pages on the unit i perform on.


now my questions:
1. do i loose anything on functionality on a MPC4000 compared to latest JJ OSXL ?
A) regarding non destructive chops / jamming with chops ?
B) Has the 4k audio tracks ?

2. has the MPC4000 that reverse button to reverse the "active pad" ?
as i have on the 1k-JJ OSXL in chopmode in trimedit page ( F4 button)

3. any drawbacks otherwise on the 4k, bugs etc ?
4. ohhh, the 4k has no CF card drive ? is working with the CD drive as fast as CF-card on the 1k ?


it´s really about chopping,....and audiotracks possibbly
i do not "perform" otherwise on the MPC for now

I don't use JJ oS2xl, but only the previous (pay) version.
And I do own two mpc1000 and one MPC4000, so here are a few pointers.

1. do i loose anything on functionality on a MPC4000 compared to latest JJ OSXL ?
A) regarding non destructive chops / jamming with chops ?
B) Has the 4k audio tracks ?

The 4000 does not have non destructive chops. and no audio tracks (unless you can implemenet the old school audio track streaming from HD as you could do over scsi with the old s3000xl sampler, but I have no HD on my 40000 (noisy as hell and troublesome).

No realtime reverse on the 4000, but of course you can reverse samples in edit mode, and play them ping pong style if you wish.

3. any drawbacks otherwise on the 4k, bugs etc ?
Size, bulkiness, are drawbacks, but other than that iot has great ergonomy, and a comfortable screen. No bugs on my machine. Also the 4000 has defintely a great sound, and a direct turntable input which makes for gerat sampling abilities (and sampling at 48bit is different). It has great chop functions, and amazing sample arranging possibilities. The workflow is not as good as the MPC1000/JJOS, but close.
The real striong point is realy how the 4000 sounds, and how it blends sounds together. The 1000 always seems a bit muffled, and muddy, and I speak of the same samples played with both machines on the same system...

4. ohhh, the 4k has no CF card drive ? is working with the CD drive as fast as CF-card on the 1k ?
No CF drive, but you can hook a card reader to the USB port and it works very well. But it is waaaaay slower than the MPC1000. Really slow, really really slow.

Note that the 4000 will not import nicely programmes made on the 1000, but the reverse is true also.

This statement is so right, and the most important aspect. The 1000 (JJ) has excellent functionality but still is only a drum machine, the 4000 just sounds a lot better when you start adding other sound other than percussion

can the MPC4000 do this: in programm mode:
set cursor to all on the pitch parameter,
jamming the pitch of all samples without a 1oct limitation ?
or: fader to pitch, 3octave range to jam with ?

i have only 1oct range when i set the fader to pitch on my 1k-JJXL, but have 3 octaves when setting cursor to all on pitch parameter
