I hate these filters.

Okay so High end isn't bad but the low end i've been frustrated with since I bought the 1k a couple years ago.
Makes me want to rush out and by a 2k.

Anyone feel the same?

nah, i dig the low pass on it, the band pass shits me........

never used the bandpass...
it's way more flexible to just do a lowpass and a highpass together.

I like the lowpass. it's got a nice sound to it, I mean, you're not expecting to get like an analog sound from a digital filter.

the jjos eqH and eqL are useful too. but that's jjos.

They are ok IMO.

Ableton Live gives me better results.

I appreciate that tip. I always wondered how I could widen the bandpass filter (sort of like the Q on an EQ). Dope, thanks!

yes using both filters can be better than bandpass filter alone. This post has made me do something I have been meaning to do for a long time and that is to map the filters through some spectrograph software. That is the way to know what is happening. Do you think a sequence of a low pass filter sweep will be the best test. I think that and a few set values like 00, 100, 20, 50, 80 maybe and see what freq you get and compare them. I just downloaded audioXplorer so when i figure it out I might post a few pics of the freq response of the filters in 3 OSs (Akai, Free JJOS and JJOSXL). Or has some one done this already ??

I heard the filter quality had subtly degraded with each JJ release, but that could just be an urban myth.

Either way, the filters in the 1k/2500 are rubbish in comparison to the 4K.

prove it. come on then show me a spectrograph. I never sussed put the 4k much, but I guess 24 bit outs are a added headroom advantage, but wonder if the filter freq range is bigger than 20Hz to 20kHz as 24bit allows? I should look up specs but would agree that is an advantage to a degree. It still relies on DA and software really to. The only way to know is to plot them. JJOS hmmmmm, really I never heard that the filters where less quality as it progressed. I think that is people not getting to understand the sound and character of the filter. Its not as steppy higher up meaning it seems a steeper slop on low end, but that is probably my imagination playing tricks on me. I think they are ok, they digital after all, if not a bit too much self oscillation sometimes but easily tamed. I mean you want that self oscillation, thats where I think its good as well and you get used to them. But I am gonna plot them. Just so I know what number means what. IS value 00 20Hz exactly, is 100 exactly 20kHz ect? It sounds it but its good to see for your self.

Obviously the response isn't exactly what you'd describe as "analogue sounding", but with 35 different types you get a lot more flexibility. The 6 pole HP is perfect for filtering out turntable rumble without trashing the other frequencies for example.

Throw me a few samples that you're familiar with and I'll happily run them through the filters so you can judge for yourself.

the filters have never been mind blowing..they get the job done tho for minor pre production tweeking...quality filter work is done on my d.a.w. after its tracked out.
