MIDI In I to sequencer/outputs only?

maybe i'm retarded and/or missing something but i'd really like to be able to have my midi keyboard NOT trigger samples but instead be routed out or to the sequencer. not seeing how this is possible if one of my Out (in the track window on main page) is set to a program. looks like this:

Trk: 1 - xyz
................
Type: DRUM
Mute: OFF
................
Out1: PART Part: 1-samples
Out2: OUT-A Ch:ANY

it appears that any time you have a program loaded midi data that shows up at either of the midi input ports on the back of the machine are going to trigger samples. can't seem to mute the sampler from midi input...

any ideas?

Change "Type" to "Inst" and "Out 1" from "Part" to destination output, ie: out A, B, C, or D.

thanks...will give that a shot when i get home. but i think changing Out 1 to something other than my program will render said program currently unavailable via the pads. i should have clarified: i need my samples available AND have the external midi controller not triggering them - i.e. in the same track (i'm playing the sampler and keyboard at the same time).

Change midi channels. Or re-route your routing destinations.

not sure how this works exactly as i just kinda stumbled upon it but changing "Out1:" to INT-A and setting Ch: to ANY allows you to trigger samples from the current program via the pads only and ignores the midi keyboard input. not sure if this will work for recording sequence data...time to crack open the manual and figure out what i did. anyhow, problem solved. thanks for your input dabmeister - you pointed me in the right direction.

You have to go to the midi page and change the routing there. You will see midi input I and input II select either one you are connected to and turn the jog wheel to change from sequencer to sampler A, B or directly to midi out A-D.

Changing on the main page only changes where the data on the track goes that has been recorded. Changing in the midi page bypasses the sequencer track all together directly going to your midi outputs.

on the MIDI Routing page, your options for MIDI in-I and MIDI in-II are either SEQUENCER or IntA/IntB (for inputs I and II respectively)...so your only choice for the midi inputs on the back are input-->sequencer-->sampler or merely input-->sampler. the drum pad routing options are: sequencer, IntA, and MIDI OutA. so the drum pads can bypass the sampler altogether but not the midi inputs. unless i'm missing something...

After a day in the studio I had to come back and correct my earlier statement.

Keep it simple.

Yes you will not bypass the sequencer from the Int I and Int II.

But on the main page when you change the track from part (which are the internal sampler) to Out channel 1- midi out A-D you will bypass the sampler. As long as you don't set your track to record all your midi notes with pass straight out to your hardware. When are playing live make you are on that track.

Simple really don't overdo it.
