Replace the MPC 5000 for ...?

Hello MPC masterminds,

about 2 weeks ago I got me a 5k. As I never owned a MPC before I spend close to 5 hours every day to get myself accustomed to the machine and so on. Before my purchase I read the whole lot of bad reviews on this and other forums about the 5k but I was able to make a really good deal (around 1100 dollars).

As I got more into detail and started to get more complex a couple of bugs appeared that you were talking bout in the forum including that I lost a bunch of sequneces and sings I worked on. I still have one year of warranty to go so I contacted first AKAI itself, they could not help me and told me to get into contact with the dealer who selled this thing. Till now I got no answer from 'em.

As I read the whole OS 2.0 bug thread I'm quite sure they're not able to repair my machine or anything else. So I'm thinking about selling the 5000 on ebay and go on getting myself another MPC most likely the 2500. Although I'm a bit sad the 5k doesnt work right as I liked some really nice features

To get to the point: Replacing my 5k what would be the best choice? I may prefer the 2.5k cuz I liked the size of the 5000. I have the feeling due to its size especially the pads the 1k is kind of a toy, correct me if I'm wrong. Going from a 5k to a 2.5k will I miss alot of features? I guess with the money of the 5k re-sell I'll be able to upgrade the 2.5k with an HD / CD-Drive / JJ OS / maybe even the XLD Screen as I also liked the huge display of the 5K.

If you're really into features then you've only got a few choices if you want to stick with MPCs.

2500 with JJOS or MPC 4000.

Normally, I try to stay away from these MPC comparison/recommendation threads but as a 2500, 4000 and 5000 owner I wanna clarify something. The MPC 5000 is a very capable machine in the right hands-even with the bugs it has.

To be honest it does even more than what I wish it to do
but the many bugs are really pissing me of. I'm not yet really going into the core of the 5000 and I already lost some work. The bugs are more likely minor but one day one effect engine doesn't work the other day a keygroup looses all its samples and the machine freezes when i wanted to save the restored keygroup.

Wow man, it sounds like you might have a lemon. I've never had a problem with effects and it only froze up once and that was before I installed OS 2.0. With regards to saving always save 'entire memory' to ensure you have everything saved including effects settings, programs and sequences. Have you sat down with the manual in hand and went over it thoroughly? The manual is painful to read but it's worth reading...a couple of times

To many poor statements in O.P. thread to even consider valid post.Tip read before you buy,study manual when you do buy.and no MPC is a "toy".
