In terms of what I will need for sound/interface/multichannel mixer, I want to be able to use my DJ setup and use the MPC/laptop set up at the same time, to hear the audio from my 2 ch mixer AND have audio from my laptop. What do I need and what ends up being connected to the powered monitors? I assume I will need an audio interface like an apogee duet, and a multichannel mixer to hear everything? Thanks!

Yes, sampling from the DJ setup, from the outs on the Rane 2 ch DJ mixer. How will I get audio from the laptop AND just from the DJ setup, I don't want to keep unplugging and routing, etc. Just confused as to what final audio source is connected to the monitors. Any help would be grand, first time recording with a laptop, I'm used to hardware only.

IMHO,
Your gonna have to unplug and plug things or else you will be close to creating a really nasty feedback loop. There are ways to use what's calls the "auxiliary sends" to send only certain audio signals to certain places but the danger is still there, you forget to flip a switch or depress a button and BOOM your shredding your audio equipment in no time.

My advice, plug and unplug stuff because Atleast then you know your safe. Also it's more visual so you can see where things are going which might help you.

I know it's really temping to create this seemingly very simple never touch a wire set up, but you'll be better for it and it won't take long at it for it to become second nature (moving wires around etc...)
