MPC1000 and loading new samples onto the memory

I am new to these toys. I just got one off ebay. Slowly getting the hang.

I can connect the mpc to my mac and load samples fine. But when i load the MPC it only shows me the folder and not the samples. So then i realised my files had too many characters, i changed them all sothey are less than 14.

I still see no samples but when i say 'LOAD' it says it's loading them and then i can't figure out where it's loaded them.

I feel i'm doing something wrong. i know i am.

help

...when i move all the folders from the folder 'zenhiser' on my memory and just throw then in the route with no folder the mpc shows me them?

sorry. I haver somehow managed to load all the samples from my memory into every single available program? seem to be making a mess...

congrats on getting a machine. Now you gotta learn lots. but thats ok take your time and read as much as you can here.
Ok so of course samples have to be named the right way and need to be 16 bit .wav files. As you know you can load the samples. Programs are the sample assignments to pads and settings. So even though you might load all the samples it wont play till you put them into a program so the MPC knows what sample to play when you hit that pad in that program. get it?? You can have many programs with different or same sample. that is your choice. Or no samples to even, thats more advanced midi stuff, but for now assume programs are like the maps for the samples on the pads.
So if you assign all samples to one program and then do it again and again you get lots of programs like now. 64 samples on 4 banks in one program (not including velocity layers) is a lot of samples. keep it simple to start with. Make a project and save it in a new folder every time to, so that way you do not over write programs that are the same name but are different.
You can load folder of samples but it is not a program. You can delete programs and their samples or just the program and leave samples undeleted to. So hope that helps.
