for sure. I was gonna keep a scripted a hot folder for batch conversion. But then I do not use loop packs so I do not use it much at all. It was set up for a few samples to be renamed from .wav to.WAV. but it is in the same vain and recommended for the large conversions

sounds like they're in the wrong format to me.

three HUGE sound tips for anyone (especially in dealing with conversion of samples to 44.1k/16bit) (also, this is how i do it via mac, i'm sure most of it should transfer method wise in a pc environment).

Use Spek.
spectrum analyzer, free. absolute wonders this thing it does, yes. i've lately been using it to check wether or not samples are 16bit or at 44.1

Use XLD.
batch conversion of pretty much any audio file. in most cases the thing cruises through it. i've used it to convert TONS of 32 or 24 bit .wav sounds and it often times just screams through them (again, memory/cpu dependent). but the batch conversion is so nice!

Use Automator (*mac specific)
there's tons of functions in automator, especially when it comes to batch file clean up, renaming files, etc. super easy to do.
decent tutorial about it here

hope that helps!

Hi you all,

I have been reading this thread and I just wanted to give some thoughts about converting audio down to 16 bits.

Please do be careful when converting audio and don't give things for granted, like use this program or the other.

DON TO USE XLD, or programs like this, they do convert audio but unfortunately they do not offer any kind of dither, since I contacted the company about this very matter, and it does data truncation conversion, in which case you're in trouble.

There is a way of converting and processing audio in pro tools for a bunch of files and dithering them properly, or if you want to spend some extra bucks there are programs that do it properly.

The batch procedure in Pro Tools is easy, if any one would like to know how to do it, please PM me, feel free.

So, be careful when down sampling.

Just wanted to be of help.

Cheers ya all.

I just use the batch converter built into Amadeus (osx) but scripting is more customizable or pro tools whatever. I wouldn't bother with dithering for individual samples unless something came out of the conversion that was definitely undesirable. It's always nice to have the choice But then I'm not a fan of 'smooth'.

I think the 24bit thing is funny: all this extra resolution for people to make music with no dynamic range or detail...

For batch conversion I've been lovin sound forge (9). Batching is pretty new to me but it def rocks. U can save your routines for next time. And run multiple actions, like pick a folder save to WAV 16bit, stereo, mono and also mp3 all at once. As example.

For bulk renamin I have been using 'bulk rename utility' for years now and I consider it as essential as a good zip program. Its windows. Havnt checked that one of urs Meta but its also free.
