As this is a complete workflow killer.

I'd say this constitute's a major flaw in the current OS. To not compare the ren software to Maschine is pretty far fetched and it's gonna happen daily, for the rest of the lives of the products.Just saying, when a features good, perhaps the opposing team should run with it,if it works better.

Dan, is wrong if he thinks this isn't a major flaw.

That doesn't sound right...

1. Load a program with 16 sounds
2. Assign these program to 16 tracks
3. Record 1 sound per track
4. Go to Export and check the 'Render Separate Tracks'

You don't get 16 tracks of audio?

We're off to a bad start here, I'll explain..
MPC REN
1. Load program with 16 sounds - YES
2. Assign the program to 16 tracks <--- Are you kidding me? Why would I wanna do that? Other then the fact, that it's the only current way that Akai see's this fit...

Let me refresh my workflow with Maschine...

1. Load a program with 16 sounds..
2. Mixdown every sound from one track!!! <<<--- Notice no need to create 16 tracks!!! Does that make the workflow easier? Yeah it does, and this is apparently where Akai doesn't get the term workflow..

And #3.on the akai mpc ren workflow, Seriously?? Like I'm really gonna wanna track drums like this, record a kick track 1, record a snare track 2..Cymbal on track 3..

Not sure who in the world even tracks like this, but I bring up a kit, and record one .pgm all on one track.. Kick snare, Hats etc.. I never in my life would load up 16 different tracks for a realtime drum performance, not to mention chops and stabs..

That's just ridiculous

Is this when using MPC REN as plugin each sound can be routed to a mixer track? Isn't that the same like routing a legacy MPC to a physical output?

Whats the issues here I don't get it? Can someone explain this to me?

That's actually very normal.

Every sample needs it's own track so proper mixing/muting can be done.

Start with kik and snr on the same trk1 so you can play them together to get a feel. After wards copy trk1 to trk2. Del snr from trk1 and del kik from trk2. Trk3 and so one will all be separate sounds, samples, etc. Every sample gets it's own track.

You are used to recording everything to one track and that, is not good for mixing later on. This is the reason gear is featured with several tracks. Sounds like you want the gear to separate/explode sounds to separate tracks for you, why can't you do it yourself?

Are you guys for real????

Does this mean sequencer Tracks and Outputs are tied together?

Trk1 = Output 1/2
Trk2 = Output 3/4

and if I want to seperate drums into different channels i need to copy and paste them onto different tracks. That is a dealbreaker for me... if thats the case I will not ever fk with the ren. (got a 4000 here with 10 , yes TEN, analog outs)

Do just like what Lamp just said, you people must have never owned an MPC before. You can record all you want on 1 track, then copy those tracks and then delete the sounds separately, Some of the people who have the Rens don't deserve them. Like WTF, yall don't understand how pissed this thread has gotten me. Like did they ever say that you would be able to record all of your 16 samples onto 1 track, then route them individually.

I can't believe that having to separate sounds onto different tracks would be a deal breaker, that sucks for you man. I've been working in this fashion for years with my 2kxl, so for me it would be second nature. But, I don't think they have to be on separate tracks to send them to separate outs. From what I remember when I had the 8 individual outs on my MPC, you assigned different pads to the outs, not the tracks.
By b-righteous Sun Sep 23, 2012 6:01 pm
I agree with bobbybland here. Being forced to make separate tracks for each drum hit or record each hit one at a time slows the workflow. I know past MPC's have this limitation but they need upgrade that. I can't vibe on a drum groove doing one element at a time. Breaking them out to separate tracks manually is too tedious. There should be a single command to explode a program out to separated new tracks like the MV has. Also, the export options need a way to track out each pad separate for a program.
I see this is already listed in the feature request thread.

Guys come one are you fking serious?

I can assign any sound to an individual output on the MPC 4000 and 5000. And the 4000 is 10 years old now.

Why the **** would i want to separate the tracks out, thats just plain stupid.

If that is the case I have to seriously questions the dudes involved on that project. And please don't bring that consultants shit up, cat's been working on the sp1200 and mpc60 and using the mix outs thats not the point here and we know you can make bangers like that. But sure a new piece of technology should take things to the next level.

I still don't beleive that I have to separate a sound ie. kick onto a sequencer track to get it to playback onto a DAW or physical channel
By bobbybland Sun Sep 23, 2012 6:35 pm
thank you e, and b-righteous, this is exactly what I'm saying.. Also, what is not being discussed here is this, not sure if anyone caught it, but I did mention it.. fwiw I've owned everything from the 2000 to the 5k.. and I've never tracked drums like some here have..anyways back to my other point..

On a hardware mpc, I can take a .pgm start tracking my drums on one track.. get to a daw, press record on a midi track, my daw picks up the midi notes, then I can (depending on the daw) use the split midi notes to different midi tracks feature...

THIS IS NOT EVEN POSSIBLE WITH THE REN.. why? Because the ren operates on a silent midi channel as a plugin in a daw.. YUP

Word never heard of that before in my life, but it's true..

Just wait till midi heads finally come to grips with this.. after the glitz n glamor fades n dudes start needing a tool to really make music with..
Don't get me wrong I'm not saying I don't know how to make music n track the way a few of the folks here have mentioned, but it's 2012, n this is working with a cpu now, that ain't flying, REN is in the BOX as we speak!
By e9000k Sun Sep 23, 2012 6:42 pm
I really hope some AKAI folk read this.

On my 4000 I can mix Pads and Tracks, also I never understood why on the Ren you can't export pads as individual wav's also.

Don't mean to start anything, but why would anyone make music with everything on one track (track 1) when the MPC (pick any one) since it was created allows you the option to record sounds on 64, 128 or however many tracks? How the hell does someone do track mutes that way? I would want sounds to drop in and out and that seems like more work going through an entire single track to mute sounds at various time.....

I don't even have the Ren yet and I seen youtube vids of people exporting individual wavs so that all you have to do is pull the exported waves into your DAW session.

I have 4000 and when I complete my song, to track out sounds individually, I have to assign the sounds to the main outs (R) or (L) in order to solo each sound....using the ren to dump each sound in a matter of secs without tracking sound by sound the duration of the song in the best thing since sliced bread...IMO

but to each his own......all sounds on one track just seems like more work in the long run
By bobbybland Sun Sep 23, 2012 7:30 pm
DJ A SHARP as mentioned, many Mpc users, n now Maschine users make music this way, and always have.
My question is why would anyone waste there time copying over track after track, needing to have 16 different tracks for 16 sounds when all you need is a proper export system.. Not to mention the feel of the drumming here, how is it possible to even, I know users do it, but it's lifeless imo..

Eg: I can perform everything on one track, mixdown all the stems while your still setting up programs on different midi tracks..

To me your method is old and tired.. Not sure if you've ever tried the Maschine way, or even the DAW way, but in a daw it's similar..

For example; BPM ,GEIST,TOONTRACK etc.. record midi, then bounce audio, it already knows what to do, separate the tracks to different audio stems..

Does anyone in here actually perform on real drums? How akward would that be to tell the drummer, ok just play the hi hats, or just play the kick n snare.. wow.. talk about not being able to create with the feel, maybe this is why so much music has lost the feel to it??

On the 4000, go into the Mixer and select the PAD Tab. In the Out section you can assign the outputs for each pad on the fly. No need to track individually if you have the 8 outs on the 4000 !!!!

And on the ren its not a matter of secs, the REN only bounces Tracks so unless you separate the sounds out you will not be able to bounce them individually. On the 4000 it can be a matter of secs :)
By bobbybland Sun Sep 23, 2012 9:55 pm
Right on,yes the 4k had the correct workflow, and e is right, you can't go to a pad on the REN and tell that individual pad to bounce out, so you have to bounce the entire track..
which means you have to perform completely akward, unless thats your sort of thing..
to me that's undesirable..

I love the feel of the hardware, love it, but the software is just underdeveloped, and no words from Akai tell me this won't be a fun time..

As of today, the Ren exports tracks not pads. The pads can be routed to physical or virtual individuals outputs.

bobbybland wrote:Does anyone in here actually perform on real drums? :

I was under the impression that real drummers have their drum set properly mic'd so their kicks, snares, Hats, toms, etc can me recorded/mixed on separate tracks.

I get you have feature requests like the rest of us. But when I buy an MPC, I expect it to perform like a traditional MPC first....which is recording on tracks and using a track mixer.

You people are fckn unbeliveable. Stick to maschine, or your 4k. Like I said, some don't deserve the Ren, because no matter what it can do, all you hear about is what it can't do. I've never known anyone to record all of their sounds on 1 track, people who use DAW's to make beats don't even put all of their drum sounds/samples on 1 track. Thats just stupid.

:hmmm: Does that mean that it will be in a future update
or is nowdownloadable from Akai.? :hmmm:
