Sample from turntable help~

I want to start sampling vinyl into my MPC1000. I wanna stay on the cheap side of things but still want good sounding recordings. I'm just wondering what I would need to purchase to do so.

I was looking at this for a turntable

I know I also need rca to 1/4 trs.

But if I buy these things will it all work out for me, my first attempts to do something like this.

You don't actually need a mixer with a USB turntable. The mixer would normally be used to act as a pre-amp for the turntable signal, the USB tables do away with the need for that.

If you're thinking mixer for scratching, be aware that those USB TT's and most inexpensive belt drive turntables are not suited for much more than a basic scratch or backspin. You'd want a higher quality direct drive TT for that.

But to just get samples into the computer so you can transfer them to the 1000, yes that will work fine. It probably wouldn't be hard to pass the TT signal through the computer and route it to the MPC's Rec Ins, if you want to sample directly into the MPC. Although you'll need some recording software installed to manage the signal routing.

It's simple really..

You want to sample into your 1000?
options are= Analog INs, Digital IN, USB

your source of choice is ,in this case, vinyl records.

You need a record player i.e. a TT ..

..most direct way would be to use the MPCs analog INs.

CAUTION!
TT only provides PHONO output! The MPCs INPUTs need LINE level!

You need an Amp of some sort.. mixer.. or a stereo amplifier .. whatever.. you need LINE level.

You can use a turntable and a mixer to sample vinyl into your MPC1000...

I don't want to run anything into my pc to record. I want to play the vinyl and record the sound with my MPC. If I buy the above items will I be able to do this? Converting the rca outputs to analog and plugging them in the record in? Also could you guys recommend some good scratching TT'S.

do like me. i was on a tight budget so picked up an old record player from a garage sale for 5-10$, got the artcessories phono preamp for round 50$ at my local music shop and there u go!

Just check the needle/cartridge condition when u buy the record player. If ur lucky like me u wont have to switch it.

Good suggestions, but maybe think about about a cheap DJ mixer (which all have preamps) at around $50, never hurts to have a crossfader around. And don't forget ANY stereo receiver can also handle your preamp needs.

if you dont want to break the bank and want a scratching turntable that will actually last awhile, check out numark tt200's or tt500.

they have lots of torque, reverse, and can play 45s, 12 inches and 78s.

I'm surprised the op didn't continue looking a bit further down the page on the B&H website. Seems like it has more capabilities and it's cheaper.

let me try to set this straight.

mpc needs line level to sample from.
good turntables USUALLY output phono-level (too low).
nowadays, there are cheap turntables that output line level.
most usb tables will do this.
if it has a switch for phono/line, you do NOT need a preamp.
if it is only phono, you need a preamp (good and most older tables).
a dj mixer will also work as a preamp.

the turntable you posted about (Audio-Technica AT-LP60USB) DOES output line level, so no need for a preamp or dj mixer.

i personally feel that its more rewarding to go get a turntable from a garage sale / thrift store and then work on getting a preamp / mixer to make it work.
this could go either way though, where you get a better turntable for cheap, or a crappier turntable that requires more work. its sort of a gamble and will definitely take more work, but work is good and its a great way to learn more about your craft.

I been thinking about what you said a lot. I want to get a crappy TT and a DJ mixer. Is that DJ mixer in my original post any good? I just need to find one with RCA(phono) inputs correct?.

well consider for a moment that i never said 'get a crappy turntable'
part of the beauty of buying used / thrift is that you can maybe find a much nicer turntable than a mass-produced, new, cheap turntable.
or you can end up with a crappy table still...
sometimes you can find a nice table that needs work too, so it really just gives you a lot more options.

i also think getting a crappy table is totally legit - whatever it takes to get you started, i'm all for it.

Would I still be able to hook up a DJmixter to this TT even though it has a PHONO, and LINE switch in the back?.

yes a dj mixer will take phono or line level connection.
