You have to use as a plug or be able to sync to make any type of real modern music

I read this in another thread and it got me thinking on whether it's true or not.

So no petty E-beef please just answer the poll and post your opinion.

I personally think this isn't the case, but this is all a hobby for me, I don't make money from it and never intend to. I see DJ Premier talk about using a MPC 60II still and think, 'he must get by without software still' and i'm sure other prominent producers do too.

Does it depend on what genre you produce? Simple hip hop beats might not need surplus VST's and effects to knock but you electronic music pro's possibly do?

To me, it's all as simple as if you can think it in your head, then you've already made it. Some don't seem to realize that the plug doesn't just end up in your hand to plug in. Same thing with being able to BPM match (if you were talking about that,) it's confusing to me to think that it would be used as a standard of comparison but, in all honesty you shouldn't need to even use a pitch slider then.

Very confusing at the least but, at the end of it all, music is music. There would be no plug if there were no music. Music comes from our hearts and our souls, not the tools that we use or the language that we speak. It all coincides with making music is what many believe.

Probably where that statement came up was not from a musician but an artist of some sort. Personally I lean on the side of being an artist because what I'm making is more like art, like something to look and stare at. My "musician" self is not really in tune because just like everything else, a lot of it is just copy and paste.

Anyways, those are my 2 cents upon that subject. Music to me is art, but to some others it's just something to mess with in freetime. Personally, I can't see someone using a plug and syncing as standards of today's music, and much less understand what point that it is supposed to be. Like I've already said, music and art (good type) both come from the heart. No more, no less.

im just now starting to a bit... but i definitely wouldnt say i needed em... more just out of boredom / curiosity.

on that note, i voted "who gives a ..?"

in terms of the mixing and mastering process... plugins/vsts make things a lot easier when it comes to attaining good sound without spending a ton of money...

but, to be honest... since i got reason 6.5 i havent done any mixing and master in reaper with waves like i was doin.. i just been using reasons "virtual hardware" and that shit sounds dope!!! so im back to not really usin VSTs

maschine came with a few, but i rarely use any of them (so far at least)

I'm cool with being left behind if you HAVE to be able to sync to make "modern music".

Having 2 independent sequencers with no synchronisation throws up a lot of creative ideas if you know what you're doing.

i dont really know if your talking about creating music or mixing/mastering ect.

people still create music all day without a computer or vsts. im just getting into using only my mpc 1000 to create music, i used to use logic heavily, but i got tired of using the computer all the time. i still track out my beats to logic and record with logic though.

i think the cheap price of the DAW nowadays enable alot of people to produce their own music who otherwise couldent have becuase of how expensive analog outboard gear is.

Its all about what works for the person creating the music. If you're computer based than of course you use plugins but there are people who still enjoy the physical labor of actually playing an instrument.

Personally, i only use the computer to record vocals or to record my beats. Everythings created with vinyl and the mpc

i think it would be real dope to get a little multitrack recorder and track out without the computer someday.

"Who gives a damn" choice at 82%. I like that. Analog, digital, hardware, software...does it make sound? Then I'll use it.

yeah I seen results from both and I use what ever I can get, but my computer aint gonna do a DAW very well so I just stick to hardware and try to make it sound like its software.
