I have JJOS2 on my 1k, which JJOS do I get to ensure my old beats are compatible on the 2500?

EDIT: Sorry, I now see that there is OS2 for 2500, however, support is no longer offered. So that means my question has now changed to, which OS SHOULD i get? Can I use any of the other supported OS's?

If I'm not mistaken I think JJ only sells OS2XL for the 2500 at this point. But for your purchase price you get OS1 and OS2 unlocked and can switch between them anytime you like.

So maybe more $ than you wanted to spend, but you'll get what you need if you make the OS2XL purchase.

Somebody correct me if I'm mistaken on the 2500 JJ sales, but that's what I recall from my purchase and that's how I'm reading the site's listing.

I just noticed that, so I suppose my only choice is this because I have dozens of beats made with the 1k that I need to have access to and I don't wish to keep my 1k since there would be no use for it now. Thanks for the reply.

Ok, so as a follow up to my post, I've got JJOSXL on my MPC2500 now.

Since I'm transitioning from the MPC1000, I'm looking for the smoothest way to do that so I can continue working with the beats I already have made, so I have a few questions:

1. Is there any issues known when going from the 1000 to 2500 with beats? I know they're similar and I'll be using the same OS, just wanna be careful as to not lose any of my work.

2. Is there any reason to keep the 1000?

Thanks for the help!

if you have the same os, they are essentially the exact same machine, i went from a 2500 with 2xl, to a 1k with 2xl and my projects worked fine. to be sure though, i would check all your projects before you sell your 1k.

I've just upgraded from a 1000 to a 2500 as well. both machines have OS2XL on them. While I do have a few sequences done in OS1 on the 1000, the vast majority of them were done on OS2XL. Transferring them was as simple as copying the files from one machine to another (through USB and a PC of course) and voila. My MPC2500 sounds just like my 1000. The workflow is the same but the interface on the 2500 is much nicer--minus the jog wheel (the jog wheel on the 1000 is better). Pads are much nicer on the 2500.

Anyway, the software is almost identical (OS2XL that is). However, there is one thing JJ left out of OSXL for the 2500---HiEQ and LoEQ filter types!!!! They are only available on the MPC1000 version. This means if you created a lot of programs on your 1000 in which you used the HiEQ and LoEQ filter types heavily, you will notice a difference in the sound of your drumkits and beats when you transition to the 2500.

I wonder why JJ didn't implement the EQ filter-types for the MPC2500 version?

Other than that, the software is essentially the same and the hardware features of the 2500 make it a vast improvement over the 1000. I'm still keeping my 1000 for gigs. It also comes in handy as a "portable studio" as well in conjunction will a laptop and maybe other portable MIDI modules. It's a great thing to take with you if you go out of town for a few days.
