Layering kicks\snare - bounce down to single track?

Ok so Im curious to know what you guys do when layering kicks and snares. Do you adjust the volume and then bounce the layered sounds down to a single track or do you keep them on seperate tracks and turn the volume down to prevent clipping?

when i'm being creative and have time....
i place the sounds to be layered on different pads and send them to different channels on my mixer, adjust the eq, volumes, start and end points, then trigger them all at the same time, and send them to an outboard compressor and resample.

when i'm lazy...
just stack them on the one pad, adjust volumes etc, and resample through compressor.

i'd imagine that tracking out seperate would give you more in depth tweaking but combined is easier, especially if you only got 8 out

Different tracks for sure! If your gonna have them hit at the same time your almost always gonna need to EQ IMO aside from volume adjustments. You could always EQ after, but i prefer before and on different tracks. It's much more surgical that way

If you got a newer MPC though you could get away with just putting HPF on the snare if you'd rather combine for less outs. So I guess not for sure then

Resampling saves memory, tracks and processing power.

You can spend forever tweaking 4 or 5 different layers of a sound, just because you can...meanwhile the creative juice evaporates and you end up with a suspect layered kick and not much else.

My point is, don't dwell on it. Create the timbre you want and resample it.

simult pad combined with filter, adsr and the 2 effects works for me. i'll resample if i want to filter / eq / compress further and need the extra FX though. if i run out of voices then i will re-sample too

as a rule of thumb i try not to compress or eq anything before it hits the PC (where i master) as i find it to be quite a destructive way of working.
