so first of all dont throw stones after me...

So, I'm a proudly owner of an Akai Mpc 2500 and I really love my baby and from day to day I'm feelin more familiar with it.
I'm readin the Users Manual and check a lot of youtube fellas that showin some good tricks and stuff. Often I hear its better to install jjos because it's more userfriendly... and after hours of googlin jjos I'm got more :hmmm:

actually my question is:
someone (like me) new into MPC world... should follow first the User'S Manuel and learn to handle the Akai OS or is the main options from the jjos identical, so I can start from the begin with jjos?

You can install the free jjos straight-away, read the official akai manual and check the changes/upgrades on jjos.

Once you've familiar with your machine and its ins and outs I recommend you to check out the wonderful world of os2xl... it's got loads of cool stuff, but requires patience and time to get hold of it all.

congrats 8)

if you feel comforatable recording a sequence, making a program, and saving and loading. get jjos.

after you get the free one, save up and buy jjos2xl.

Just to make things clear, for the MPC 2500, it is JJ OS-XL.

OS2XL is for the MPC 1000.

^ But otherwise they're identical (mpc2500 has some hardware related benefits over 1k ie. number pad, +/-, 2x more q-links, more outputs, but lacks eqLow and eqHi).

I quickly parsed the charts for OS2XL and OS-XL and did a comparison for laughs. And they are 1:1 (- some typing differences here and there for feature labels). It would be cool if someone had interest in developing an interactive chart.

so now I got the JJ OS 3.10 free version... and I'm bit confused. How I create a program. With Akai OS I choose the Samples and place it on the pads but that aint workin with jj Os it seems different... If I choose the sample and press do it there is no notice for where I can puttin the sample

hope u understand what I mean

you can manually create your programs if you go to mode+program then you can scroll all samples from there.

you should be able to load them from the load screen like you could before, but this feature might not be in the free version, its in my os2xl though.

From the manual (JJOS FREE): http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/mpc2500/manual308.htm

Sample to load is assigned to a pad.

Image

If the [WINDOW] key is pressed on the screen of LOAD, a "Option" window will open.
When setting to "ON" and loading of a sample is performed, a "Assign to Pad" window will open.

Image

Please move cursor to the pad number which wants to assign the sample to load, and press the F5(YES) key.
When the F4 (NO) key is pressed, it does not assign a pad.
And a window is closed.

My Beat Making on the MPC1000 book currently contains a separate 'Beat Making on the Free JJOS' book as well - this was originally written for the free JJOS on the MPC1000 (3.15), but this is pretty much identical to the version on the 2500 (3.10), as people have already stated.

http://www.mpc-samples.com/product.php/ ... e-mpc1000/

I am working on a 'tweak' to this book to make it 2500 compatible, and that tweaked book will be free to all existing 'beat making on the 2500' owners. But in the meantime, if you buy the 2500 book, I can sort you out with the 1000 JJOS book, which should help you for 99% of the MPC2500 JJOS. PM me if you're interested and I'll work it out for you.

BTW I am also working on an 'enhanced' version of the Free JJOS book, with video and updated tutorials, which will be fully compatible with 1000/2500.

EDIT - Clarified things more clearly after speaking to rootsrenegade!
