95% of the audio in my sig was recorded hot into the revox @ 7.5ips
..The very last song snippet was recorded twice to tape... for extra dirt.. lots of wow and flutter on that.

I digitized the result with my s1100... fat sounding converters... I could make a thread with the before after comparison snippets... as I did alot of testing on that...
...Also if you look at my 'BB#8' on soundcloud that was also recorded like that.

I would love to get my hand on one of them tape machines going to keep my eyes peeled.

If you are looking for a tape machine, i'd look for a two track in good shape (studer/revox are easier to repair compared to japanese models (akai, etc)), but be prepared that it'll have to be serviced anyway.

Also, running a tape machine requires some time... servicing, cleaning, alligning the machine, etc (which you have to do from time to time)... plus you have to find tape (not many manufacturers these days).

You can get (almost) the same effects with tape plugins in a DAW.

However, if you like the sound and especially the hands-on feel and vibe of a tape machine, it's worth it IMO.

All the recent beats on my youtube channel (sig) have been recorded to a Revox B77 MKII.

@ Skywalker ... Seeing as you're in the us... might want to also look out for an otari.. Easier to get parts for over there..and get serviced. sound-wise supposed to be in the same/sweeter realm.
