Bringing back an older video that Andy Mac produce to state the purpose and usage of Ren as a plugin within your favourite DAW. I don`t wish this to come as a dispute on the board but there is a reason Ren was designed as a plugin itself to work within your DAW to finish your work. As of now at OS1.0 Ren is a what is an virtual mpc no different than any other mpc workflow. Andy states is designed to work within your DAW of choice at 0:54 and 2:37 thru 3:21 in the video for mix down as I said before we only have midi tracks in REN just like all other mpcs besides the 5k which is HD recording of 8 tracks.

If you added audio tracks to a toaster it would technically be a daw, audio tracks ARE what makes a DAW a DAW. So I could just as easily say the difference between a daw and my coffee table is audio tracks...

Remember I'm being civil here... Not looking for a battle.

I actually agree with you. I use Logic DVDs as coasters. If my coffee table had audio tracks, I would use the coffee table instead of Logic..thus my coffee table would be a DAW.

MPC 2500 and 1k with JJ has audio tracks.

JJOS audio tracks come in handy when using Logic as a sound module. Just dump those Logic sequences right into my MPC audio tracks....it's beautiful.

Pretty much all workstations have plugin versions to use within a DAW. The is standard practice these days not necessarily to address any limitations.

The Ren has extensive effects and automation. Using a DAW is an option but not necessary to mixdown as the Ren can handle it. MPC Program Tracks and Plugin instruments tracks are still MIDI. You mixdown these tracks individually or as a Master stereo track and forgo the DAW if you choose.

Unlike hardware studio with each component having its own cpu, the golden rule in software studio is too compose in midi, mix in audio to lessen the CPU load and work more efficiently. In the software studio no matter how powerful the setup you will always run into crashes if you have a ton of vsts and plugins running at the same time. Freezing or virtual bouncing to a audio file was one way to reduce the overload, but bounce in region is the way to go.

Past mpcs like the 5k and 25, 1k bounce in track with destructive editing to the whole file. A regular daw bounce in region which could be 2, 4, or 8 bars of a midi region convert to a non destructive audio region. This new audio region can now be edited, compressed, stretched, sliced, arrange over one track or several tracks with the original audio file unharmed making less workload for the CPU. Audio tracks in a regular daw has non destructive audio regions, the drum machines have destructive audio tracks similar to an audio editor like Peak. This made be fine for a file stereo mixdown, not for composing vsts because you would run into crashes before you finish your composition if you are running all virtual instruments full blast in a software studio we only have one main CPU unlike the hardware setup with each component having it own CPU.

I hope that if audio tracks being added to the Ren are unlike 5k destructive audio bounce in tracks and instead have the regular daw non destructive bounce in regions.

As it is now doesn't matter as Ren will work nicely in my software studio as a plugin and know how to use it efficiently within my setup.

Compose in midi, bounce to regions, and mix in audio.

I dont own a Ren yet but it so clear to see the intent of it and cannot understand why folks -cough- "JAH" .. excuse me, are convoluting the issue.

Thanks Blue Haze for making the thread for newbies to really understand the intent of the current MPC Renaissance.

For anyone that is thinking of using the Ren like a DAW, good luck. Even if you dont care for Audio tracks, try hosting your VSTs like you do with your current DAW, and you will be quickly aware of the limitations when copying plugin sequences. Or just save yourself the trouble and read the bug thread. I can argue that a lot of the issues are sourced from users not understanding the intent of the Renaissance as it is now. (not what it may or is going to be)

Let's not get caught up in "technically it's a DAW" type statements because it's not, by today's standards. Standards drive definitions.

Use the MPC as Blue Haze as advised. Just remember that the whole VST hosting cr*p is a periphery. Enjoy having a tradional MPC with now advanced MIDI and piano roll editing, and far more RAM and HD capabilities (limited by your comp.). This is very satisfying for folks like me that have always wanted to get into the MPC workflow but got intimidated with learning curve and ancient MIDI editing.

I would be really really suprised if they chose to go the destructive route with the Ren software. The whole point of DAW to me is ND editing of audio IMHO.

I advise members to use the Ren anyway they see fit. Get creative. If you want to use the Ren as a DAW....go for it. Plugin in your Mic, play a squence, and sample yourself rapping or singing. Then insert the resulting audio file on a pad and insert it into a sequence. Insert Auto-Tune as a plugin on that track...and get your Drizzy on.

Get creative..have fun...and don't let the perceived limitations hold you back.

This is an MPC Ren technical forum that I am sure newbie's would enjoy hearing more of what the Ren can do. There is a forum dedicated specifically for DAWs. There is also a dedicated forum for MPC X versus Product Y.

Let's have more talk about the Ren....
