I see where you are trying to take this conversation. That's not needed here.

We are talking about sample edit mode. And if you have some innovative ideas, I am sure we all would like to hear them....something beyond an editing confirmation box I hope.

I'm obviously not Akai and can't factually answer this, but if I had to guess, I think it's because add/remove slices isn't in the current OS.
Drum Loops provide easy to see/detect transients. Because of this, when they want to show you how "Chop by Threshold" works, it works great. It picks up all the drum hits.
Now a sample with some strings with a slow attack, or a record with pops and clicks, the transients in the samples may very subtle, and the software won't detect the exact points as easily. This is where Add/Remove slices is a game changer, and you can set the threshold to get a general set up for slicing, and go in and add/remove slices as necessary.
For now there are several ways to get the slices you want, but none as good as it would be with add/remove slices implemented, the way Recycle, EXS24, and several other known competitors have it implemented.

Wait wait wait.....so if I have a drum loop and just want a snare or i have a guitar loop and just want a certain strum, are you saying that i can't trucate the end points and delete what I don't want?

Or did I read you wrong........

oh no, lol, you can definitely do that. I'm speaking only on the recycle-like chop method, where it detects transient and chops up your sounds for you. The style you speak of, the original style, is still in tact, and using two q-links and the "assign" function, is actually very cool in comparison to some of the previous mpcs. So you can definitely do what you just described just fine homey.

agreed - and my attempt to bring this back on track - would you clarify your comments regarding the other mpcs sample edit modes? please see my post below...

JAH wrote:The last 2-3 MPCs they have been increasingly adding functions that you can do without stopping the sequencer. This is essential to work flow these days.

so im confused now - coz said you can do it with a 4k and jj, but you are saying you can do it with a 5k and a stock 1k/2.5k/500 (the last few mpcs released)?
:hmmm:

again i am specifically referring to adjusting sample start/end/loop params while seq is running.

i am very curious about this function therefore serious about an accurate answer. i didnt think you could do it on a stock 2.5/1k or a 500 and i have no idea about 5k.

this shouldn't be that hard...check it:
can you edit sample start/end/loop points (sample edit mode) with sequencer running on these mpcs?
mpc60: no
mpc3k: no
mpc2k: no
mpc2kxl : no
mpc4k: yes
mpc1k/2.5k (stock): no(?)
mpc1k/2.5k (jj): yes(?)
mpc500: ?
mpc5k: ?
mpc ren: yes

thank you - just trying to get legit information. please correct if im wrong on any of those.

You don't... at all.

Annoyingly we have to start with some of the basics, which Akai thought would be cool to leave out. The "pop up" boxes as you describe them in the 4K are no different to other MPCs, but you just get a few useful extra options. If you can't get your head around the simplicity and benefit of such functions then it is patently obvious where you are trying to take this "conversation".

The MPC 5000 and 2500 can change the start/end points samples while the sequencer is playing. I can't recall exactly about the 1K but if I was a betting man, I would say yes as it is very similar to the 1k (talking Akai OS).

While the MPC 3000 can't edit while the sequencer is playing...it's editing, even without a waveform editor, is really fast. Its my favorite MPC.

The ability to Tap in Slice points. This is workflow stimulant. I don't know of a faster way to chop samples specifically the way you want them. Sure you have chop to threshold, bpm, regions...but if the way you wanna chop doesn't fit in any of those modes right away.....

this turns a 5 min chopping session to a 30 second chopping session.

if not that, simply add/remove slices, which is a reiteration on my part, just thought I'd throw in a reminder to anyone who might be reading this. :smoker:
