i never seen a VS880 12track, i got a VS880 8 track xpanded it has effects init but no cd burner, i just burn to a phillips audio cd burner and it records everything, but i dont see why it wont record the effects, you just have to set up your master output signal to send evrything out, and you do that thru the mixer settings in the VS880.

but if you got a link to that VS880 12track i would like to see that. never seen one ,i thought the 12 tracks were different models,
hope this can answer some questions.

I had one before but I never used the effects in it.I always just used it as sort of like a mix down recorder.I ran all of my audio through a Mackie and then patched in external effects from there worked really good this way.Actually I am in the process of buying another version of the 880, the VS 890.Try VS planet for any VS questions because roland has some of the worst product documentaion on its website.Trying to get a manual for some of there products is next to impossible.

i meant the 8 track, im stoopid....but yea thanks for the reply...this is what i read......."CUTTING A CD

If you want to create a CD, the VS880 songs in question must be recorded at 44.1kHz, and the copy operation requires you to mix your finished master down to two tracks first. This may involve some track bouncing, or even mastering to DAT if you have no spare tracks free. The manual provides some helpful hints in this direction. NONE OF THE VS880'S EFFECTS OR AUTO MIXING CAN BE APPLIED DURING CD WRITING. The manual warns that this version of the software overwrites all user effects patches, although they are re-loaded as and when any songs requiring them are called up."

i took it off a website. i think it just applies to the S2 upgrade. u ever hear of that? here is the link to that site if you want to check it out. let me know if you do. http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jan98/a ... dvs880.htm

yo thats an interesting peice for the VS, i have not seen or heard of that,
like i said i use an external cd burner, so ihave bnever ran into this problem of not recording effects and stuff like that, i use the anolog and digital inputs and i just track everything on the cd burner, i also make my TOC for the cd on my burner, or i'll just record to a CRW then use that as a master copy and burn cd's from that master .
this works well for me ,i have mastered this technique.

what i digg on this machine is that you can do some good editing stuff with it,i like the fact that you have endless virtual tracks to record on,the effects are good too although i dont use then often, the midisync works great on it, as long as you give the extra sequence it needs to stay on point thru the recording.

the things i dont like about it are the screen , the screen is a B!tch to see especially cuase thiers no lite on the screen, the mixer is a bit confusing,
bouncing tracks is alittle confusing too, because i dont do it to much either,
when making tracks you cant record another track on the same song track if it not the same bpm, cause the bpm locks up( ie;if you got a 90 bpm song and you want to record a 100 bpm song directly after you cant set the tempo you need to save that track song and start another. i'm sure theres a way but i havent figured it out yet ,
other than those things it 's a pretty good peice, i still havent masterd this peice of equipment , but i still learn stuff as i use it ,what i do know about it is probably the basics but from there you can go in to other worlds inside the peice.

but yeah im going to have to look in to this S2 upgrade.
hope you get some help out this.

It just means you have to bounce all your tracks to a 2 track master WITH efx applied before you burn to CD. You can't apply efx as you burn.

I got the vs880ex and just send digital out -> digital in computer and record using pc soft. Then burn using pc. Easier.

Also a tip to keep in mind if you record a track dry then you want to apply fx to it set it up to do so then bounce the track with the fx applied to a open track and then wipe the first track. this will keep ur options open for using more fx. seeing the manual only says you can use two at a time which has always been a lil lame to me, but thats how they made it. thats a trick I used often on the vs 880 xpanded. If you apply fx to the total mix and then bounce down to a two track master on the vs you will be able to burn with no problem, fx and all. Also check the roland site for the update info for the 880 if you dont have it in your 880. It will allow you to use a burner hooked via scsi connecter.

I have sold my 880 but I know it like the back of my hand.

yeah.. exactly what he said. you have to do all your effects & whatnot before you mix it down
