hello!

i'm looking at buying the mpc500, but i need to answer a SPECIFIC question first.

i need to know if you can have all 12 pads playing LOOPS at the same time and mute/un-mute them individually on and off "on-the-fly" (via hitting the pads) for LIVE PERFORMANCE.

to put it another way:
can i mute/un-mute the loops on each "pad" individually LIVE, say i have LOOPS on each pad:

a drumloop on pad1, synthloop on pad2, bassloop on pad3, fx loop on pad4, etc. -- all the way up to pad 12... all playing AT THE SAME TIME over and over again endlessly, then can i mute and un-mute any loop at will just by hitting it's pad?

i'm looking for something to replace my awesome but kinda clunky yamaha SU700...

PLEASE HELP!!
THANKS!!

the mpc doesnt really work like that, the pads play more of 1 shots, and you have your sequence looping, thats what causes the song to loop. the pads dont really loop and unloop like your wanting, im sure you could get it to sound similar, and you can make a pad loop if you hold it down, or if you set up your loop mode, but im not 100% positive you can get it to loop endlessly like you want.

how i use loop mode mostly is:

take a one shot sound or sample, then if its a little to short for the bpm, i make it so it loops the last few ms of it continuously until the next note comes around and cuts it off.

so not exactly what your wanting, but i dont really know what is, maybe someone more experienced with other gear will be able to shed some light for you.

edit******** the mpc 500 just may be able to do what you wanted, read this topic for more info.

I've not banged on the 500 for a good few months now but you can mute tracks. And it's the tracks which will have your sequences looping.

So you can do what you want just not how you described it.

The SU700 was first real sampler. She may be chunky and a little "Milf" compared to my younger model chick(500) but she was always fun once you tweaked her knobs.Loved her so much, I tricked on her twice after a crazy ex smashed the first one.I dont see her musically these days but she's here with a towel over her.

I'm far from a expert but from my knowledge you can do what you describe.Just make sure you ASSIGN A SOUND TO EACH TRACK SEPERATELY.Track parameters is the first thing you should learn. The two machines are slightly different. The 500 has much more features BUT the SU700 has a better layout. But she's a bbw compared to the 500

I think this is exactly what the MPC excels at. On the 500 you can have up to 48 simultaneous loops (or "tracks" in MPC terminology) which you mute and unmute on the fly--but only 12 will be available to do so with the pads at any one time of course. Each track can be anything from a drum loop to a MIDI sequence triggered on an external synth to random sample/FX hits on the MPC.
