MPC 3000 vs MPC 60 + s3000xl

Yo guys. I can't decide what to choose :
MPC 3000 or MPC 60 +s3000xl.
I love the sound signature of 3000 so all of my samples would go thru the mpc 3000 or s 3000xl. But, i read a lot of forums and I don't know what to belive:
are there any differences in sequencer between 60 and 3000?
I've read that 60 sound more loosy and 3000 is more accurate, punchy.
Is it true?
Bascially sequencer in the 60 and 3000 should be the same(3000 is upgraded 60, right?) but faster cpu of 3000 is some kind of fact i can belive in. Is it just shit from ppl who doesn't know what are they talking about?

well, I think the 60 can do 60,000 events.. the 3000 can do what? 100,000 events? also, I think the mpc 3000 shares sampling engines with the s3000 while the mpc2000(xl) share engines with the s3000xl... I believe.

you will probably have more flexibility with the 60 and s3000xl if you do go that route... and you should have enough cash to buy an EQ to run your turntable through before sampling.... that will more than compensate for what ever the mpc3000 does sonically if the eq is any good.

The 60/s3000(XL) combo would also have a best of both worlds upside in that the 60 is 12bit and the s3000 is 16bit like the MPC3000. Why the machines hit hard in such similar way with one being 12bit and the other 16bit is beyond me but they sound almost indiscernible from each other.

I have 3 possible eq's to use : 2 in mixers and one old polish standalone so that's no problem. 60k events is large number, i would never use even 1/6 of that lol.
Isn't the s2000 engine of 2000xl?
And the 3000xl is the same as 3000 just with few more additions?
Yeah, i thought about 60 sampling possibility and it has much better sound than my roland s-10 sampler.
But what about difference in seqence timing? Really the same?

Yo i don't know if there is any difference between the 60 and 3000's sequencers (never owned a 60) but the 3000 has an awesome sequencer, it's a great machine!

you would be surprised.... it can go quickly if you have something connected via midi.. like let's say you have some VA synth such as an electribe.... you record the sequence and each note you push in takes up 2 notes (same with the mpc pad presses)... you tweak a knob like a filter sweep... who knows how many events that takes up.... but with one synth and onboard samples it goes quicker than you would expect.


I dont believe the s3000 and the s3000xl are the same at all.

There may be another longer thread, I remember more debate on which MPC's were analgous to which rack unit.

All these comparisons of MPC's and AKai rack samplers have been covered endlessly, and no doubt will be in years to come. So why don't all these MPC3000 owners sell up and cop a S3000/XL which is much cheaper?

What I can say is any MPC60 without 3.10 is severely restricted compared to those with it, and the sound of the mpc3000 has to be heard to be appreciated.

You'll have to try each combo for yourself and don't rely on hype to inform you. If you try a combo and like it keep it. But you will never truly know, until you try each for yourself.

I will look more about those samplers because i got a lil bit confused. Now for sure i will take mpc 60, the one i would like to pick has 3.10 os so yeah, thats nice. Also i will have opportuniy to sample in 12 or 16 bits with its own sound, awesome!

If you go for an akai rack, I wouldnt get the 3kxl ... At least get the s2800/3000/3200.... or better again get a s1000/1100.

again, why not s3000xl?
Internet info really sucks, some people say there's no difference in sound between s2800/s3000/s3000i/s3000cd/s3000xl/s3200 and some do.
So how it really is? Which one is the closest to mpc 3000?

Closest to mpc3k is s2800/3000/3200 ... but they are still not as good sound/component wise compared to .... S1000/1100 .. I've tested them all side by side.. and recorded/shared audio examples for people to decide themselves what is 'best'

...and I don't think the mpc/s3000/xl etc sound bad.. just for me not as ear pleasing/warm etc... as the s1000/1100.. and the transposition quality difference... is big

where does the s950 fit into that szr? (i'm genuinely wondering..)

900/950... Totally different sound, one of the best samplers for overdriving the sample inputs to get hairy drums. Can transform nice drums into slamming gritty drums that way esp. nice when you pitch them down.

I picked up MPC 60 with new display, os 3.10,1.5mb ram with working floppy drive, in perfect visual conditon for around 800 dollars(2500 PLN). Can't wait to get it.
Also shiit, i can't decide between s3000xl. s3000 and s1000 samplers.
Szr have you get some samples(other than drum) to compare a/b?
What i noticed s3000xl is something like sweet sounding?
s3000 is creamy and thumpy
s1000 is punchy as ****.
But never heard anything a/b other than drums
