Can you record guitar through the MPC Renaissance to a track

I been using reason and reason balance. When I bought the ren I found out it won't work with reason so I am now looking into Abelton live. My main instrument is the guitar. My question is using the Ren as the daw and going through the mic in from the ren are you able to configure a open track in ableton and record a actual guitar track in ableton through the ren as the daw? I been sampling licks and grooves into the ren
and thats cool but I am talking about an actual guitar track or even a vocal track.

This may be a dumb question but do any of you think that eventually we will be able
to record individual tracks in the ren? To me If Akai steps up an gives us that option
it would really make more sense to me considering the fact that they represent it as a
Daw. I would like to be able to have that option for my production needs.

If the Ren's inputs allow for a Hi Z guitar signal to be plugged into it then yes. If the Ren's interface is chosen it's inputs would be available to your host software. On OS X you could even create an aggregate device and use both the Ren's interface and those of another interface you may have together.

I don't have a Ren, and looking around I can't find confirmation of HiZ input, but my gut tells me you probably can. I'm sure you could ask Akai directly or someone with a Ren will have already tried it or knows the definitive answer.

Yes you should be able to. There is a REN video with a featured artist doing this.

Sorry I miss read the question. I thought you was talking about sampling your guitar into the REN...my bad.

From what I understand you can sample the guitar and lay it don on a track, but cannot direct record to a track. Its funny seen as akai were saying that the ren software could be a Daw replacement. This was a bit disappointing for me.

Yeah, I'm a fan of the MPC, I record guitar as well, I was disappointed to find that the REN has no audio tracks, I'm hoping it will be included in future updates. considering the price of the REN and the Xtra expense of a music only computer, then I would have thought it would have been an automatic inclusion

Actually, you can, and it's very simple with a bit of engineers know how. You have to plug your guitar into the XLR mic line. You don't have to have an XLR cable. The type of XLR jack on the Renaissance allows for a quarter inch input. Turn phantom power off, and switch the mic in/phono to mic in. Set your levels, and you're good to go.

BTW: Reason can use the MPC's interface. It's a bit of advanced-ish to sync them, but the interface works.
