I usually divide the original samples into 4-8 bands and then bit crush only the high end, but it's not specific bands it's always a curved transition from wet to dry going from the highs to the lows. Also I found that the order you apply the effects greatly changes authenticity of the sound especially with ring/crush together. But that makes sense I guess, especially when you think about ordering everything like its going through an a/d conversion (duh, I know).
I haven't really delved into vsts at all, I know they offer a lot of great stuff. But all the options and types of everything makes my head spin and I know I wouldn't get anything done I would just keep experimenting with new stuff. Do you know... is the mulaw option different from common u-law? JW I know a little bit about u-law etc... I haven't **** with dithering except for bouncing masters, considering Im trying to dirty up sounds and dithering is about keeping them clean!
