How are you using the Ren from within your DAW?

I've been exporting as audio tracks and then importing into PT. I've loaded up the plugin in PT and Live and banged out a drum pattern or two, but after that I'm not sure what else I should be looking to do.

Looking fwd to the feedback and pointers.

1. Use the Ren as a standalone application. Create your song from start to finish in the Ren up to 128 tracks. Then export the tracks as individual audio files. Import these tracks in your DAW for a final mix.

2. Use the Ren as a standalone application. Create your song from start to finish in the Ren up to 128 tracks. Save your project. Open up the Ren as a VST inside your DAW. Load your completed project. Use the Ren's virtual outputs to route audio into your DAWs mixer for a final mix.

3. Use the Ren as a plugin within your DAW. Create your song from start to finish in the Ren or along-side your DAW tracks. Mix the completed project within your DAW.

4. Insert the Ren as a plugin on a track in your DAW. Load 16 additional plugin instruments on your DAW tracks. Use the MPC Ren's sequencer to sequence these 16 plugins. Mix down the completed projected within your DAW.

5. Use the Ren as a standalone application on a dedicated PC/Mac. Add a multichannel audio interface to your set up. Create your song from start to finish in the Ren. Route the Ren's audio tracks to this multichannel audio interface. Have this audio interface connected to a mixer and/or a DAW hosted on a dedicated computer. Track like a traditional MPC.

....or various modifications of the methods above.

Yeah I would agree on all the excellent points Jah made. Which are very professional workflow. Through I tend to work with points 2 and 4 for third party plugins and stability in a software studio. All the points Jah ala crack (inside joke) made were right on the money this time!

Compose on your midi sequencer of choice, mix in audio.

You got jokes.....

#4 is the option I would most like Akai to continue to advance. This alone will kill any issue related to not having 64 Bits. Fire up your favorite 64 Bit DAW that supports VST and RTAS plugins and load all the plugins you like to your heart's content (well...as many as your system can handle). Then insert the Ren plugin on a DAW track and create up to 128 MIDI tracks. Then point these MPC Ren MIDI tracks to the other VST and RTAS plugins to sequence them within the Ren instead of your DAWs sequencer.

Of course that is if your 64 Bit DAW can load 32 Bit Ren VST/RTAS plugin.

Thanks Jah,this will work for me.
But i got some questions about the Ren/Daw combination.

1-Is it possible to incorporate acapellas into the MPC Sofware? So that way I could build a whole song/remix without using anything else.

2-You mentioned the fact that you can mix your tracks within the Daw.But can you also use vsti plugins that strictly belong to your daw (that can't be incorporated to anything else but the daw they belong) inside the Ren.Like, the software I use has some bass vst's,so to make them work with the Ren,do I have to put my software as a vst?
And if so,can I use my Daw as a host and as a plugin at the same time?

Thanks.

1. You can treat the 'acapellas' like any other sample. Assign them to a pad and record an event in the sequencer to trigger the sample.

2. To the best of my knowledge, most if not all stock VSTs that are included with DAWs can't be read by other applications. So if you have Cubase that came with stock instruments and effects, you can't use them within the Ren. Likewise, the Rens plugins can't be used in other DAWs.

DAWs don't all perform the same way. Which DAW specifically do you have questions about?

Better to chop the acapella into 4 or 8 bar chunks if you use it in the mpc old school way to keep it in time.

I'm testing with Omnisphere running Live & able to get midi notes into the MPC sequencer as a plugin, but am unable to get the MPC plugin to output the midi back to Omnisphere.

I have all MPC midi inputs and outputs enabled & the plugin within Live is listening for midi on all channels.

Any clue what the trick is to get the MPC plugin to output midi to VSTs not loaded inside the MPC plugin?

Thanks!

FL Studio. So I must use FL as a vst.(It should work,FL can be used as a plugin inside other Daws like Reason,Ableton etc...).

But if I use FL as a vsti, can I mix each track of the track mixer of the MPC Software inside the FL's mixer?
In fact I want FL and the MPC Software to respond fluently to each other.I want to have all the benefits of using FL and all the benefits of using MPC Soft, without losing any of their features if I make them work together.

In theory this sounds sexy, in the real world, it all boils down to having enough CPU power, and depending on the plugs you use, RAM.

Still, sexy...

but..... you can use JAH's method 2 from above and then if you have cubase, you can open up halion or your DAWs exclusive VSTi and complete your song.

I use the ren in the following way inside of Logic Pro 9:
1) Load the Ren plugin inside of Logic
2) Assign the Mpc's transport controls to control logic (record still triggers mpc only)
3) seq drums etc in ren
4) seq soft synths and external synths in logic
5) bounce midi tracks and mpc tracks to audio in logic
6) export audio from logic, then mix and arrange in pt10

Right on this is the easiest and most stable way! Or mix inside logic or daw of choice.

^^^^^^
And if so, how stable? I know there was a mention of seq drums in the mpc and softsysnths in the DAW, but is anyone getting quite the number of crashes as a plugin sequencing everything vs standalone
