frozen mpc 2000

Whats good. I recently got a used 2000 that wont load after placing the install disk in the drive, when you turn the power on the screen lights up and you can kinda read the mpc logo. I know for a fact that its not the screen (I've swapped it out already). I've been told that it could possibly be a power supply problem, im clueless at this point. Can any one give me any assistance with this issue?

maybe check and see if the RAM is either loose or the wrong kind of ram stick or whatever... i've heard that's been known to make MPCs freeze.

Anyway... Althought the ground wire is severed, it is unlikely to be what is causing the disk drive problem. But a severed wire inside the machine is not good news even if it is a ground (sounds like its been messed with)

BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE
it would be wise to make sure that the electrical integrity of the machine is not compromised and that it is safe to have powered up.

I suspect that if the drive recognizes the system disks but fails to load it is a simple fix

Maybe the floppy 32 pin cable is seated wrong or damaged
The floppy disks could be damaged
The floppy drive could need replacing

I suspect the answer is in these 3 but more sinister motherboard faults are possible.

do you know how to change a data wheel? my data wheel on another one of my mpc only scrolls up...

I can repair any pro audio and especially mpc's

Although is the working up working smooth or intermittent?
I only ask as there are parts of the pcb itself that can cause this.

i bought the replacement encoder wheel from mpc stuff.com to replace it. the dial scrolls only up (its an mpc 2000). it works all the time but only scrolls up, it was scrolling down for a little while then it went back to scrolling up. this is an ooooolllllld mpc, i've have it for over 10 years and its done pretty good so far. i dont know how to soder so, i was going to take it to a shop and let some one fix it that knows what theyre doing, or is there a way that i can fix it my self?

I would send it off... And I am saying that because it's not something you want to get wrong.
