[solved] CD Drive Help!

Okay the problem is:

Teac DW224E-VW8 (with pin mod) installed + HD installed / not installed:

same with Teac DW224E-V57 (without pin mod) installed + HD installed / not installed

No root "CD drive" or anything else

Only HD installed:

like it should be

suggestions?

maybe there's a pin on the hard disk that need to be moved over for it to become master ?

Yes upon the HD is a diagram but I can make nothing of it. It says something about jumpers and devices?!
Anyway, the CD drive doesn't even show up when the HD is taken out although as I said it worked blamelessly in the 5k. Without the CD drive installed the HD appears correctly.

Please folks, help me!

I dont see a jumper on which indicates hard disk is set to 0 which is master, thats good..I think there's a problem with the drive or the socket inside the mpc ...

EDIT: pulled out my cd-rom outta my 2500 to double check, I got Teac DW-224E - C93 and no pin mod...this leads me to believe model you got dont require pin mod and pin mod is what's causing the issue in your case.

I lurked in 5k section and seems like couple users got 224e and works without the mod

Second TEAC drive:
Didn't do the pin mod yet, it still won't get identified both having the HD installed and not having the HD installed, although the CD spins and the bezel flashes.

so, just to clarify... your HD is working fine if the CD drive isn't connected? has it been formatted with JJOS?

as far as the CD drive is concerned... did you just push the pin down or actually remove it? it's possible that there is still a tiny piece of the pin at the bottom there making contact and confusing the mpc.

Yes, HD installed + CD not installed: the HD gets identified and works blamelessly.
I broke the pin off, there was still a tiny piece left like you say which I pushed down afterwards.

I formatted the HD with JJ OS 3.1 not with OS XL yet. Will there be a difference?

I guess the problem is to be found inside the mpc... I opened it up today but well im no electrician

and one has pin mod and other one dont right ?

next step I'd take is take it apart and see if you can trace back from the cd-rom bay connector to where it plugs in on the motherboard...maybe loose connection, tear in cable

Problem solved:

I simply did the pin mod on the 2nd cd drive.
I was suprised it did work since the other modded drive doesn't work at all, but I don't mind as long as it turns out to be a happy ending.

weird.... but glad that worked out for you in the end.

whoever it was that originally discovered and posted that CD drive pin mod on this forum deserves a medal for all the money that's been saved here.
