MPC 3000 - Problems recording midi in from an MPC 1000 !!

Hey.
As my MPC3000 wont playback midi files from my mates MPC1000 we decided to record the midi notes into the 3000 from the 1000. We set up the midi cable and armed the MPC3000 track 1 as a midi track and recorded the sequence in from the 1000. Then we triggered all the samples in the 3000 using the new sequence brought in from the 1000. Then we noticed something odd. All the midi note data played back, but it was missing the orginal feel and swing from the sequence that ran in the 1000. I have tried putting the quantise off in the 3000 when recording in but it still seems to be an issue.
Can someone please help with this??

I am doing something wrong here?

Getting one mpc to swing/sound like another is what you're doing wrong
Each have different clock jitter.. therefor different feel..
Also the 3k PPQ is kind of too low to simulate the groove of another seq.. you'd get closer with the 4k.

Next best solution is recording the whole drum loop into the 3k.. Or celebrate each mpcs ability to do it's own thing.

The MPC3000 has a PPQN of 96 which is pretty loose by modern standards.

The MPC500/1000/2500 also have a PPQN of 96 which is pretty loose by modern standards.

The MPC4000/5000 have a PPQN of 960 which is pretty tight for most needs.

Synchronising the two machines might help improve the timing...

Its more the fact that I simply want to put the sequence in my 3000 so we can simplify things and edit from there and use the mpc 3000's swing on the sequence. i still cant understand why if I turn off the quantize function on the 3000, that it still wont see all the midi notes precise positions coming in.

So in other words the 1000 and 3000 are in the same league in the seq department.
So how come when I import the sequence by recording it in on a track, the mpc 3000 ends up quantising it to its own grid and ignoring the midi data note positions and swing of the 1000....

Has anyone ever used ss'works rs16 to import midi from another mpc.

I will try syncing it up and see if that makes any difference.

Swing is related to clock jitter...
Capturing that requires a high ppq.
You can 't fake that mpc1k jitter/swing in the 3k perfectly cos of that.

Basically the jitter/swing in your 1k isn't limited by it's ppq

so in other words I cant simply record a seq in and expect it to do the same?
Have u ever used RS16 to import and export midi files?
Maybe this would solve my issue.

Had to google that app... in theory it's possible it might make a slight difference.. so worth testing out.

I can understand what you're trying to do, but you'd probably be better of simply redoing the sequence in the MPC3000. It might be a pain, but worth it...
