Akai MPC 2000 Compact Flash Drive Kit

It is worth for my 2k classic? It would be nice to hear your experience or advice

Its worth it, but not for 300$ IMHO. I got love for mpcstuff like everyone else no doubt though.

p.s. I dont want to use zip drives, because as we know it's piece of crap sometimes

Hunt eBay for either a similar put together reader or find the couple of parts that make it up on thier own after doing some reading. You can always use mpcstuff as a backup.

What steered me away from the reader for my 2k classic is our machines inherent inability to use folder systems. The idea of scrolling through thousands of samples with 8 character long squashed filenames is my idea of hell. So I personally enjoy my mountain of floppies but I know that is not always a shared opinion.

Are you trying to transfer sounds from a computer? and/or just store finished tracks?

Yeah, I'll transfer wav files from computer, sometimes sampling from vinyl, also sometimes I can use floppy for a sounds transfering between pc and mpc, because I am going to buy external floppy drive too

Yeah I definitely recommend having a USB floppy. I also highly highly recommend just running your computers output into the recording ins and the machine and sampling your sounds off your computer.

you can find the same non-hotswap drive at mpcstoragesolution.com for less. and they even have a hot-swap drive model. both versions are compatible with mpc2000 classic (and mpc2000xl for that matter). peace

what is difference between Non-Hotswappable and Hotswappable?

on the classic... I 1000% agree... i would need the cf reader and ten thousand 32mb cf cards.

Yes... From personal experience I can tell you that mass storage is hell on earth with a 2kClassic. I currently have a 9GB SCSI drive that is the brain for my 2k, and I made the mistake of taking an entire week and transferring over most of my sample library to it. Now, I've got 9 partitions, but those aren't folders by any stretch. I came up with a naming scheme, but what happens when you get past 808Kik99? I decided I didn't NEED more than 99 of anything....but how to separate my Goldbaby from my Maschine from my personal library? Answer: I don't.... I just pick what the song needs. Another nasty surprise: they stay in the ORDER YOU SAVE THEM! WTF! so every project I want to borrow a sound from, I scroll farther and farther down.

I'm considering trashing everything.... All my songs/sequences/programs would be a hard loss...but I could start over and create 18 500MB partitions and keep OS only in A, programs, sequences, songs, etc in B, Kicks in C, Snares in D, etc.... Right now its sort of like that, but I realized the truth WAY too late so it's pretty jacked up

Co-signed. Well, not with "mountain of floppies" options, I guess, but it makes no sense to use super expensive SCSI card reader with 2000 classic.

It makes more sense to ditch 2000 classic and get 2000XL with IDE CF reader (which is cheap) and XL do support directories, unlike 2000 classics.
