does cable length effect volume?

I recently got a sub to go with my monitors for making and mixing. I had to get 2 more cables for "sub>monitor". But the guy at GC gave me a 10ft and 15ft. I should have checked but i didnt.

So now, one of my monitors is noticeably louder. So I switched the cables from each monitor and the other monitor is louder now (with the shorter cable)

Is it possible this is a defect? Or is it just that longer cables=more volume loss?

And i would just go return them but the GC is an hour away and i drove there 3 days in a row already(stupid)
THinking about winging it and adjusting the volume on the monitor with the longer cable to a slightly higher volume setting, which is pretty much my only option for now

edit: starting to think its a defect somewhere. When i split a track (purchased from itunes with bass i thoroughly know from listening in car) into 2 mono tracks, and solo the left channel (monitor with longer cable) the sub is really weak, but when i solo the right channel (monitor with shorter cable) the sub kicks in really nicely. This isnt normal right? So maybe adjusting the monitor volumes wont work? Ffffuuuuccckkk this. ANY help appreciated for sure

Also if it is a defect, will i **** up my monitor somehow by upping the volume to compensate?

Return the cables and get a new one, because it sounds defective. Both cables for monitors should be the same size though and quality is reduced when longer the cables. 10ft cables is perfect.

thats weird, def shouldnt be happening. the only thing longer cables can introduce is more noise or "crosstalk," but this usually happens with unshielded cables not xlr cables.

yea thats what ive been gathering online as well. It sucks cause i always just buy Livewire or whatever it is from GC, and never had any problems. So first i bought two 5ft Livewire cables, but returned them when i returned something else to get longer ones. And this mf grabs me monster cables n tells me the price is the same so im like whatever. And of course the one monster cable i get - is defective. Have to make an hour drive there and an hour drive back again just to return at some point. Not really knocking Monster more knocking myself for not just getting what every other brand cable in my room already is.
