Well I got maschine all packed up and ready to go and cant wait to get my mpc 60 on saturday. I came to find out today to my surprize when I went over to test it out to make sure the fixes he told me needed to be done was all there was to do. I got handed a brand new scsi board still in the plastic dude was like I bought it and never got around to doing the install cause I only use the mp for drums. I was like dang. so guys my question is this now . How hard is it to build a flash card reader/ writer or find one for sale if anyone got one to sell holla.

oh a on side note do you guys think these hardware/software hybrids like maschine and mpc ren will ever really sound like the 60 or 3000 with there vintage features they have on them.

Nope, there is no way any modern machine can sound exactly like the MPC 60. 60 is true 12-bit, and you will realize this once you get it. It cant be replicated. For me, alot of the 60s charm is just the experience of playing it, sound, and that sequencer. 60/3000 sequencer is my favorite of all time.

As far as SCSI and card reader, I think people have done this. Do a search for it, alot has been done/said.

That's a stroke of luck copping the SCSI board, just remember you need a compatible OS for it to function. Contrary to popular belief, there are several OS that will enable the SCSI board.

Installing a card reader in a 60 may seem like a good idea, but without the 3.10 OS and the memory expansion fitted it could be a waste of time/ effort.

Card readers are relatively simple to construct and fit, there are plenty of threads and step by step guides on doing this in the pages of this forum. Personally I always recommend keeping the floppy drive in place and going external with the card reader.

External CF card readers come up on ebay every now and again, the components for an internal are easy to source except the ACARD SCSI to IDE bridge which can be hard to find, but there are some around at the moment.

What other work does your 60 need?

Yo Clint246,

whats good fam the 60 im gettin has full memory and the 3.10 expansion. the two repairs that need to be done is a new el foil and a fix on the midi outs only one seems to be working . I think the external scsi cf card reader/writer is the way to go i like the picks of the one you built the joint was lookin propper .

Just to add on, One of my 60’s came with O.S v3.03 and the SCSI worked.

Congrats! One of the best MPC's. One of my favorite features is the step sequencer cause its very useful and so easy to use.

These are the MPC60 operating systems I've had which enable SCSI.

2.14 (Came with SCSI from the factory, lacks the extra functions of Linn upgrade)
3.02 (Not sure where this OS originated, pretty similar to 3.10 to my eyes)
3.10 (Roger Linn upgrade - still available)

Plus what master-ceo has confirmed in the previous post, so if you find a 60 with these OS there is a possibility that the SCSI board is installed.

Did Roger Linn only make the 2.X and 3.10(x) revisions or did he also have a hand in 3.0X revisions?

Would be cool to know some of the history behind them and who developed them, because the labels my v3.03 chips are so homemade it ain't even funny. Looks like a kindergartener labeled and stuck them on. Obviously a burned copy :hmmm: lol

I skimmed over a post a couple of days ao where someone was breaking down the bug fixes in each OS version. I can't find it right now but if someone stumbles across it please post the link here. Thanks!

IIRC the 3.02 I had stated "Copyright Roger Linn Design 19XX" on boot up , just like the 3.10 does.

Edit: found a pic that I took, sold this one a few weeks ago..

1996, clearly after the MPC3000. OS3.10 shows as copyright 1997...

if you wanna know the real story about who really wrote the 3.10os talk to Bruce Forat he was the development brain behind the 60/62 and 3000 and got no credit for it thats why him and roger linn parted ways . its all goos though akai new what time it was and got him to help design the mpc ren and thats realtalk cause he told me that himself . forgot to add there was supposed to be another upgrade for the 60/62 but roger scraped it and used the os upgrades for the 3000.

I know it needed a new foil and had a midi issue, but what did you pay for the maxed MPC60? A ballpark figure will do if you dont want to divulge to the world. We've been discussing recent sale prices in that other thread.
By crate king 1 Mon Oct 22, 2012 11:47 pm
hey clint i traded him maschine and gave him $400.00 canadian so the total would be give or take bout 800.00 canadian. oh i found out the midi issue is just a small soldering job so all i gotta pay for is just a new el foil. Im lovin the 60 my drums be soundin thicker than a $4.00 milkshake.
