What's the hardest thing in music production for you?

Finding inspiration for me. If its not there then I'm like a cold statue in the rain. But every once in a while I'll hear some type of track I've never heard before or even a movie and that fire just be blazing inside me, which can last a few days to a few months. Thats why I like to enjoy life because inspiration can come from the slightest experience as well. I also try to write down dreams I've had and turn them into lyrics.

Inspiration is what we all need to keep the torch burning. Yo, one time I had no lyrics and I looked at this dummy at the antique shop, and BOOM, on a napkin at Subway, I wrote 3rd Rail.

Hardest thing for me is getting a strong melody for a song and then replaying it on a piano or guitar. Sure anyone can make a melody that is simple but a good one is not easy for me. That is where the craft is...where technical skill and the free mind merge.

Production wise, I don't really think anything is hard. I don't really feel any limitations.. It's coming up with ideas worthy of being produced that is the more difficult part.. Think the production part is something you will inevitably learn just from doing.. So that should be a lesser concern... But there a lot of output that shows a bit of production skill but showcased with material that probably never should have seen the light of day.. Lol.. Harsh maybe, but all good either way, as you can learn from everything..

I think someone said it earlier. Allowing myself to over think or over analyze the music and or the lyrics. When I'm feeling free to just do it and allow the music to "become" I make my best stuff. Lyrically the same thing. If I think about it or allow silly thoughts like "oh man cats may not know where I'm coming from here" that's when it all goes to hell.

The other thing is I'm decent on keys but aspire to sharpen my chops it's frustrating to want to play better. Usually I can pick up some things from tutorials or a homie here and there but I really should get some sort of lessons to really learn and enhance my abilities on the keys. I'm so into Rhodes and whirlys but I gotta sharpen the skils on the keys.

The wife/partner the cause for a lot of mine.

The hardest thing for me is just finding the time to make music. Between work and school during the week and spending time with wifey and side jobs on weekends, my gear just sits collecting dust for months.
If I don't end up doing something music related for months, crazy thoughts start going through my head like selling off my hardware gear.

the hardest thing for me is..

1) knowing when to stop fiddling with the fine tuning and just get the beat over with (tracked out, arranged, etc.) im a perfectionist + i have OCD

2) keeping one of my beats from sounding just like the one before lol (similiar drums/ and or patterns, variations of the sequencing/drops & mutes)


i just counted 64 unfinished/un-arranged beats on my hard drive LOL

i honestly havent "finished" a beat in months, i CANNOT get sh1t done in warm weather (working out + parties= no musical progess haha)

it's hard for me to enjoy my own music .
if i work too much on a track, i always have to forget about it for a few weeks because after a certain time i only hear what i don't like.
that's why i don't make "beats" for the moment but instead i do more challenging/ever-changing stuffs like movie score type orchestral music.

bass lines that kev brown dilla, nottz, bass is hard to come by


dequencing a full song with the correct song stucture but it cos lotta the beat i dont care for enuff to complete the full song

but that prolly cos i aint working on a proper release

I find it hard to not "over-produce" original beats. Once I make the main melody I just get in the zone and start adding more and more to it. Then when I finally get done I have countless layers and have to decide what to scrap.

I find it hard not to make beats every day...

And I also find it hard to make some real variations cuz the loops things keeping me in the zone like meditation or someting.. so I dont see whats wrong with that.. but it obviously is :p
