It might for some. If you don't feel that way...cool. But I love it. Akai is about to drop xxxxxxx..... Ren users, they are working nonstop to make this the go to product.

......I'm tipsy. Just got home from a Halloween party. Life is grand. Mods will probably edit this as I am trolling my own thread. Lol

"Do you plan on purchasing one of the new Akai MPC models?" and i am seeing three options:
owner - preorder - ordered.

seriously - is this a sort of joke?

do i have the choice to say: NO chance whatsoever?

- it is way overpriced for a controller.
- the way it is marketed with names like renaissance and fly, the hype videos, is personally insulting to me and reeks of horrible shallow marketing.
- the design of it has the esthetics of a bad custom job.

everywhere i look the brand is put forth before the actual product. all of the classic mpc´s, which i have not used i have to say, had that design and look because of designers choices and the zeitgeist. these new controllers look the way they do in order to mimic something else. that alone makes me loose respect for it.

instead of akai going forth and setting new standards, these products are trying to capitalise on a certain image and blatantly aim towards a specific and narrow target group. i dont mind marketing, i mind bad marketing which treats me as a simpleton.
the shoehorned "vintage mode" which have become so obscure noone seems to know how they work just underlines it.

i have been following these products as sort of morbid entertainment but some posts do disgust me.

I think the Ren is a good concept. I would have one by now if I didn't like JJOSXL and also my 4k so much.

its the realisation not the concept that i find offensive.
also a much more interesting concept in my view would be a standalone mpc with TI when needed.

but that would need some actual innovation.

Keep the comments/opinions flowing.

They only help make the product better.....

+1 @Deck Lazer ...
But unfortunately lowest common denominator marketing is the rule. not the exception...
It's just a reflection of how dumb the masses are.... be glad you're able to see it, be sad you're almost alone in not being intellectually castrated.
Maybe one day you'll fall on your head and feel right at home afterwards.

thank you. and i am sure i am not the only one.
it just makes me sad that a most beautiful and culturally significant legacy has been turn into a cheap marketing angle in order to rejuvenate a disconnected company.

i am using the octatrack for sampling and i think that its idiosyncrasies might actually spawn a new wave of good music the same way sp and mp did.

cheers,

Ummm... when I was in school in Munich/Germany, we had a debate club that was focused on communism, Marxism–Leninism, and so forth. Less than two years later, the German Democratic Republic, known as East Germany, had ceased to exist.
