Some reasons they may be less desirable:
* Racks samplers are less comfortable to use than an mpc.. unless you have a tilted rack.
* Storage is more complicated using a seq and separate rack sampler... as opposed to just one mpc.
* The s series racks are really heavy and big, not so easy to package well for shipping... and not cheap to ship either.
* People are sleeping.
With that said, you will find lots of great gear that's not desirable for no good reason at all....
Is fashion based on reason?
... By right the s1100 should go for the same price or more than the asr10, it has tighter midi, is more reliable... has a stable os etc. fx unit is on the same level IMHO .....
More options regarding modern storage, 32MB max RAM.
On the flipside, the asr is sexier looking, has a nicer display... and a very nice, but more coloured sound... As as synth the asr is also more interesting (transwaves)... and has more depth feature-wise.
All in all I put them on the same level... and think that if fashion was a reflection of knowledge/logic .. they would be both desired equally as much.
Back to the topic, if you can get an s series rack for cheap, and there are still lots of good deals... get it, try it out with an mpc... decide for yourself if you like it, if not, sell it.
