i am just going to throw this out there............

maybe consider changing to the mpc 1000


That would work way better as the centerpiece of the setup next to the microkorg.

personally, a mpc1000, microkorg, and no monitors would be fine until you get some tracks done.

you could

sell your mpc500 on eBay. you can probably get $350-$400

use Buy It Now on a like new MPC-1000 for around $600-$650

check craigslist first if your gonna get a 1000.
i traded my 500 for a 1000 with a dude on craigslist. i mightve been blessed because it works great but its worth a try.

Craigslist is ur best bet yo.....especially right now....all the mpc1k's I've seen have been under 600-550$....that's real cheap,and I'm tlking about the black 1k's too..

Got mine off craigslist for 600$ @ the tyme and came with JJOS2, upgraded pads, and maxed out ram....now that's a f'n deal!!

thanks for the suggestion but i think ima stick with the 500. i just got it recently and wanna learn it inside out before i upgrade, and even then i might just keep the 500 and get a 2500 as the centrepiece. portability is key for me

plus i live in new zealand and dont really trust buying stuff on ebay and getting it shipped here

u kno what made me wanna get a good recording set up? real early back in 2000 before i had a mpc i made a beat tape that sound real **** horrible. it is possilbe to learn all this and apply it to your technique. a 500 and a microkorg is not as advanced as previous poster's are makin it seem to be. although its a perfect set up if your just starting out. getting a computer wouldnt be a bad idea and imo it would'nt hinder you. there's not much really to worry about. its not like u got a 4000, a triton, a motif and a fantom and dont kno shit about any of them. thats a different story. the key thing is learnin the gear and applying it to what your doing not how everybody else is using it. just be patient.

ps. regardless your gonna need something with 2 inputs to get sound out of both machine. check the mixer out. if its just a interface its useless without a computer.

And just to co-sign to the guys that previously mentioned this, do you want to make beats only or do you want to make compositions? These two questions will determine the appropriate gear you'll need to accomplish either or.

Plus like I said before, you're not going to pick this stuff up over night. And furthermore, you'd be ripe for the picken's when you seek and let it be known that you just don't know anything about audio/midi recording, electronic/digital instrument & engineering basics, sound design and whatever else you might not be knowledgable about.

This is the very reason it's so important to ground yourself first with at least some of these audio/studio fundamentals.

man this forum is the bomb i really appreciate everyone comin in and droppin their knowledge.

im mainly just concentrating on making beats...

this is my soon to be set up in a week

mpc500, microkorg, behringer xenyx 502, technics headphones, logitech speakers (lol)

i knows the behringer mixer blows but i copped it free with the microkorg and couldnt really afford anything else. its sorta just there to hold me down until i can save up for what i really want (alesis multimix or mackie onyx).

so my next purchases will be the mixer/interface, alesis active monitors and a decent computer.

i think with the set up i have now with the 500 & microkorg will hold me down until i completely master them sh!ts ya diiiiggg.

what do yall think of this setup, and what improvements could i make? what would you add?

Can anyone help me with my home studio setup?? I will try to be specific as possible.
I sample vinyl to make beats but I'm also going for that neo soul style as well. I want to blend sampling with chord progressions that I come up with on my keyboard. I want to use sounds from things like Komplete 8, etc.

Here is my current setup:
1) Mpc 5000
2) Numark USB Turntable (connected to the mpc for sampling)
3) Presonus AudioBox USB 2-in,2-out interface (I have this connected to my computer via usb. The audio out of my MPC is connected to the IN on the front of the Audio box. My monitors are split between the audio box and my keyboard).
4) Casio Privia PX-3 Digital Piano (I want to use this with MIDI)
5)KRK Rocket 5 Studio Monitors


I am wondering what, if any, pieces of equipment do I need?
My guess is that I need a DAW like pro tools or reason, but I would almost prefer to only use hardware (mulittrack recorders, etc.)
