iPad Lemur VS MPC1000 help

Hi, I am new in the forum.
I have been using my mpc1000 for the past two years, and this forum has always been of great help, but it has not been until today that I have decidedto open a topic! Hope you can help me on this one too...


Basically I am looking to buy the Lemur app for iPad, but mainly to control my mpc1000 as the screen is not my favorite. I would like to know if this is possible at all... I am not interested on controlling the pads (that would be rather awkward), but controlling the menus in the akai. Mainly the mixer, the effects and trim pages, of course, any other page would be marvellous too! This would make my mpc1000 the best live tool ever!

I really do not know how to look for any information related to this, and not even know if it is possible as those control might not be midi controlled...

Well, in JJOS (I forget which ones) there's a feature that will take incoming MIDI messages and translate them into button presses, that would be your best bet.

Let's wait for Nym to see this, he's probably already done it.

Yup. probably the most underutilized jj function ever.

using the mpc as an fx box is not to be advised though, as it is not suited for that purpose and you could do better with any old laptop

i was in the same boat too.. i wanted to use my ipad for controlling the MPC using the 'midi note to button' option in JJOS (XL)

got as far as using touchOSC, building a nice little template for it..used it a couple of times but i found it just seemed wasteful using the ipad to do something that really the MPC can already do (ie its already got all the buttons in convenient locations)

i ended up finding it a lot more useful to use the ipad with an audio/midi interface as an instrument running (mainly) animoog and having the MPC control that.. (which because MPC can output channel pressure from the pads it is the perfect controller / sequencer for animoog)

but hey - obviously you can do both with it. and it is definitely possible using JJ... the encoder however can be a bit tricky to emulate with that system though.

Cool, I have been checking some youtube videos where the FX and Mixer pages were controlled with some midi controllers, so I guess thats my best bet...

I am not looking to use my MPC as an effect controller, I just want to be able of controlling some effects live (mainly some bitcrushing and such), I am more interested on the Mixer in order to be able of mixing stuff live with the convenience of having 8 or 16 faders instead of scrolling with the cursor keys and the wheel. I am also quite interested in controlling the Trim page with a more "userfriendly" interface than just the cursor keys... and well, just having as much midi control as possible, it would be rad to have a couple of MPC templates on the lemur with a a mixer, effects sends plus maybe some extra faders for the effects, maybe some sort of controller in order to control the start and end points in a sample, buah, it would be cool to just use some of the "random" controllers to control the stop and start positions... I don't know, just being able of fooling around and expanding the "cursorkeys-wheel" interface

Well, thanks again, I have been checking a lot of info regarding the Midi to Button function, I have several doubts although I wont do it yet, but once I get into it I will probably need some help, great to have you guys around!

Yes and it's bananas. Basically the "objects" as they call them can have advanced physics. It's what really separates Lemur from TouchOSC and other iOS control apps. Basically on a fader, knob, X/Y "ball(s)" and so on you can define the friction, acceleration rate, create bouncing X/Y controls...it's...sick.

I've only toyed with the templates (there's a large user library and some awesome "premium" layouts they give you when you register as a Liine user). The editor will clearly be a new way to NOT make tracks.

But the end results are the kind of stuff that do inspire to make more tracks so it evens out. I was thinking I might try to make a mixer with some other controls and try that with JJOS2XL. Probably I'll just take other people's templates and export the objects from those as modules, the modules when exported can be loaded in any project with all the mapping intact.

Hopefully from there it's just changing the CC's to match JJ. Then I'll try to make some templates totally from scratch.
