Key signature

Can I any sample I've ''lifted'' with unknown pitch,Can I fix(to determine) key signature just to fit to the rest of my song.
If yes which function will do this on mpc 5000

the 5000 can´t do this. try melodyne or zplane vielklang to determine the keys.

The mpc 5000 won't do that, however you have these two things on either side of your head...they are called ears! When used properly, they can detect pitch! You can use these other devices, manufactured by Your Parents Inc. called hands! These can be used in conjunction with a pitch shift function (This is on the MPC5000!!!) to adjust a samples pitch to be in key with your beat!

was thinking the same thing

you could also just adjust the 'tune' parameter.

this will change the speed too but sounds the best to me.

When being facetious goes wrong! Lmfao....I meant tune,

be aware that you an only pitch up and down your sample, which can change it to a different note, but when you get to the note you want it might sound bad because its so far away from the original. if your sampling a chord, you cant really go into it and change each note to a different one to make any other chord, your stuck with your original minor or major chord, just pitched up or down... and that pitches everything up or down. you cant change the key signature of the whole song so easily and you cant change one note up and one note down ect.

there isnt really anything good to do this like you want, except the stuff **** suggested in his post, even melodyne only works on some stuff, i havent used it myself for changing keys though.

what you can do though, is find two samples thaht are already in key with each other and then it will just work to mix them together.

The only thing I know of that averages the key of loops and whatnot is this program hella dj's were using off beat port in like 2007. I'm sure its still around, basically it would analyze a track and assign it a number like "14" and then every song in your iTunes would have a number so when you were spinning you could match the key of songs by simply matching the number. It even told you if it was sharp or flat.

But be weary of using hardware for matching the key, it's much like using a light meter in an old 35mm camera. It wants whatevers going into it to be flat and even. you put everything in a track in the same key/adjust key using something other than your ears you can end up with really sterile beats. Use it as a tool in your arsenal but not a guide.
