ok after some trial and error i figured out how to successfully transfer files from my mac to my mpc 60 . For any mpc 60/60II newbies like myself here's the breakdown for what your gonna need.

1 iomega 100 or 250 zip drive

1 iomega 100 or 250 zip drive note: I used the 250

S'sworks RS 16X/ MPC PGM MAKER for mac or MPC Editor for PC

1.)ok first format format a zip disk in your mpc 60 once done take it out and put it into your usb zip drive you'll see a folder pop up click the folder you sell your zip disk in come up dont freak out if you only see that is says you only have 25mb of disk space its because the software was made for the 3000 so what im showing you is a work around to get it to work on your 60/60II .

2.)next open either mpc pgm maker or rs 16x . note if you buy rs 16x you can use the same serial number for mpc pgm maker so thats what i did . ok in the top screen of pgm maker you'll see a harddrive icon click it and you'll see a list of the content of your drive click the file with your drums .

3.) now at the top right of the screen youll see were it says format you can choose between mpc 3000 or 2000 pick 3000 once you do that in the top right corner of the screen you see a lil box that say snd click it and you can choose snd ,wav, n/c . pick sound .

4.) now go to over to the file were your drums are and drag and drop your wav format drum onto the pads . once done click the make pgm button just above the top of your pad layout . name your files it will ask were you want to save i save my to desktop . ok now drag that file into the main folder over to your usb zip drive once it shows file has been transferred .

5.) drag zip file icon to trash can it will eject the zip disk.

6.) now load zip disk into your zip drive you have connected to mpc 60/60II press disk option on your mpc and select option 7 it will show contents on your disk now you can load up each of your sounds .

7.) Note the zip disk you used that said it only had 25mb will be your transfer disk . thats the disk you use to move sounds from your mac to your mpc 60. use a second disk that has been partitioned in a,b,c,d as your main sound disk for your mpc that will allow you to save 100mb broken up into four partitions.

Now go bang out some heat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so, is this a trick to bypass the AD converter in the mpc60? Also, are the sounds 16 bit stereo snd or 12 bit mono snd, or 12 bit stereo? what mpc60 OS version? etc...
By crate king 1 Thu Nov 01, 2012 7:23 pm
I have 3.10os on my 60 and scsi board upgrade .I converted 16bit wav files to.snd files in mpc pgm maker when i load them up into my 60 a few came up as ST but the remainder didnt. as for bypassing the ad converters the sounds i loaded are being processed threw those same converters from what bruce at forat explained to me also i just have a shit load of drums and wasnt tryin be in front of the 60 resampling all day lol . but what i can say is the drums i did load sound way better coming out the 60 than it did using the mpc 60 simulation on maschine.

side note: to my fellow newbies avoid sampling from mp3's them shits are compressed to high hell with no bottom if your gonna use downloaded samples get wav files. or you can do it the old school way and sample off vinyl or record your samples to a adat  . lol yeah i said adat at least your getting that nice warm sound do a google search and read dj hi-teks interview in the now defunct scratch magazine he drops some jewels on some of his production techniques.

No, transferring via scsi does not allow the sound to pass through the analog to digital converters... scsi zips are not analog, and that data is not being converted to digital by the mpc, it is done on the computer... it does pass through the digital to analog converters though...

I am not interested in dat machines... it's digital tape... the sound is warm if the converters sound warm... dat cassettes do not work like regular cassettes... they work like CDs if they were linear.

Yeah, when it comes to the 60 I take no shortcuts. I sample everything. Every drum is either from Vinyl / CD to .wav or .flac converted to .wav. Every drum sound I sample into the sixty sounds totally different from the original. I'm at the point where I build a new kit for every beat. I give that kit a name and save the .PGM, then sample my chops and rename the kit to the name of the beat. That way i can load up a kit with just drums in no time and know what's on it because it's not just some random samples. I think I can sample and name 15 drum sounds in 7 mins. IMO its faster than transferring from the pc via zip and you are way more organized.

I'll shuffle files all day from pc to 2500 but I refuse with the 60 and 3kizzle.

Still a cool post tho especially if you can back up your files this way.

My setup
Spyrus SCSI CF READER (1gb card = 780mb storage)
Recycle 2.1.2
Sound forge 7

Thanks for sharing your experiences with the forum.

Did you cop RS-16X from the App Store, and how much was it?

Oh and what version is the software at these days?

If you got a set-up that works for you rock with it to me its all about banging out some heat . As for sound quality I never mentioned anything about dat tape I was speaking about adat the same adat that Dilla used to record slum village's first album and RZA used to record most of wu tangs first projects with . I dont many new producer who got the money to cop a 1/2 inch reel to reel so to me adat was more cost effective . As for the sound being different going from computer to mpc im going off of what Bruce Forat told me and when it comes to knowing the ins and outs of the linn 9000 mpc 60/60II and 3000 he's the guy who wrote the 3.10os upgrade we use which later became the os used on the mpc 3000 .

Clint the lastest version of the RS 16X is 1.5.8 it cost 34.99 I got mine from the mac app store and than got in contact with the team at S'SWORKS and they sent me out a serial number so that i could also download and use MPC PGM MAKER I asked Seishu the guy who developed the program if it would work with the 60 and he told me as long as im using the 3.10 os it will work fine . cant wait for my cf card reader/writer to arrive Clint thanks for the hook up.

bruce didn't tell you that loading sounds through scsi runs them through the AD converters... because it doesn't. But if that works for you than great.... it makes the youtube videos look cooler than sequencing on the computer hahaha..

I might have to cop RS-16X just to check it out, hopefully I am able to sell it on afterwards. Good to see crate king 1 going in hard with that new 60. Some samplers don't make you feel that way at all...

debauch read my post over i never said anything about the sound changing because it ran threw scsi that dont even make sense . what i said was the converted .snd files i loaded into my 60 sounded alot fuller and what was explained to me by Bruce was that any sound you load in .snd format will be processed by that machines converters. i think you should take RS 16X for a test run and see for your self to understand how it really works like i said it might not work for everyone but it works for me. at the end of the day its all about making hot tracks.

ah okay, fair enough... It just leaves me wondering... you do the process with the RS 16X... load the files through scsi... it get's processed by the converters... save all sounds... power off.. power on, reloading the saved .SNDs again which will get processed again by the converters... re-save... reload, get's processed again... if you do this over and over... wouldn't they get more gritty since they got processed more times?

at the end of the day its all about making hot tracks.

for sure! talking about technique aids that!

MPC60 OS 3.10 can read MPC3000 samples, so whatever conversion process takes place to enable that is probably what happens when loading RS-16X samples from SCSI. Remember the MPC60 convertors are 16 bit after all, the .snd files are stored in 12 bit...RS-16X isnt converting the samples to 12 bit, that process still happens in the MPC60 ...
By fobedafied Fri Nov 02, 2012 3:55 am
yes. the 60 with 3.10e does load 16bit 3k files.

it "converts"/dithers them to 12 bit or whatever upon loading... it also takes extra time loading these 16 bit files.

so once loaded from your transfer disk, they should be saved to another disk via the 60, where they will load faster next time being 12 bit 60 files...

will look deeper into your transfer process when the time comes...
