Hi All,

I am contemplating buying a 5000 over a Renaissance. I would like to know if the someone can post a pic (or vid :-D :-D ) of the piano roll edit screen. Is MIDI piano roll edit easy on the 5000? Is it remotely close to as easy as editing on a DAW GUI? including length edit, velocity edit and auditoning as you moving notes?

Details would be deeply appreciated.

Thanks.

DAW will always have more editing tools, but the basic functions of a piano roll editor are there if you can live without the mouse.

also, keep in mind that the mpc 1k and 2500 also have a grid edit if you get jjos2xl for them, and also there is some really cool stuff brewing with the xlcd too. you can have a lcd screen the size of the mpc 5000 without having to pay as much as the mpc 5000. it will also have updates all the time.

if its screen space you need, i would rather get an mpc 2500 with the xlcd, because of the updates alone. the 5k probably wont ever get another update, so if you dont need all the outputs or the synth that the 5k has, this would be something to seriously consider.

i have a mpc 1000 with the small screen and jjos2xl, and i switched up from point and click on logic 8, it took me a couple weeks to get comfortable with it, but i like it wayy more now.

THANKS GUYS! and especially Clint for the photo.

I bought the Ren only a few days before your pic Clint. May have held back if I saw it before.

But now that I am about 3 weeks with the Ren, NO REGRETS WHAT SO EVER.

I use it as an RTAS plugin in Pro tools and it is in sync and very stable! I was worred about the stingy I/Os compared to the MPC 5000 but this is not an issue at all cos in plugin mode, I get 8 virtual stereo outs! Wont have to worry about setting MTC or beatclock with preroll bars to catch up or any of that nonsense, NOPE.

Straight Dope!

Thanks for all your input though guys, really appreciate it :)
