I havent tried yet but I sample off of vinyls so i can get that gritty sound. Plus its cheaper than cd I be hittin that salvation army round my way 25 for 15 dollars! Anyway I wanna know is do I need a mixer so I record off a record player to my mpc 1000 or can I just plug whatever lines from the record player into my mpc? And if I do will any mixer work?

you need a mixer if your turntable doesnt have line out, you havent specified the turntable your using.

if it has a LINE OUT plug at the back or on the bottom, you can use that.

if there are 3 cables coming out (usually one red, one white, and a little screw in thingy) or if you have to plug it into your amp as PHONO, then you need a mixer.

you can get a mixer for as low as 25$ .or you can alternitavely buy a really cheap amp with phono in and line out.

Yo I got this 12 track mixer for free and it works real good for filtering out unwanted sounds. I really don't need it since the MP has filtering built in it, but I guess every tool helps.
