Initial thoughts and questions regarding my new 2500

Preface: I'm on JJOS 3.10 Free version.

Well I've had a few days with the 2500 and coming from the Octatrack I took to it fairly quickly. Still much to learn however I have a few questions.

Are the buttons on the 2500 unusually hard to press? My cursor up / mode etc seem like I use excessive force. Maybe try some deoxit?

My jog wheel doesn't recognize turning it sometime like it has to catch. I've read plenty about how crappy the 2500 jog wheel is. Is there a 3rd party replacement? The plastic knob is fine it's some issue with the encoder.

Also related to the jog wheel. So when assigning samples to pads I'll have a bunch of samples loaded. Can i spin through them quicker? I feel like spinning the wheel 35 times to get the end isn't exactly the way it was meant to be. I'm confidant I'm missing something.

Most Importantly I'm only intermittently able to mount my CF card via USB on my Win7 PC. It works for a while then I get "USB DEVICE NOT RECOGNIZED" error in Win7. Currently I can't get it to mount again. I've tried different cable / different card. Uninstalled the USB drivers and had Window recreate them to no avail. Both of my cards are labeled 4GB Akai MPC compact flash.

I'm sure more things will crop up but these are my initial concerns/questions. Any help greatly appreciated.

officially the mpc only supports cf cards up to 2 gb. so maybe try one of those cards.

if your tact switches act up definitely try deoxit! this shyt works wonders. seriously!

hold shift (or tap tempo) while spinning the wheel to increment in larger steps (x10).

and yeah, the data wheel is a piece of shyt. i wish there was a 3rd party replacement.

Makes me wonder if I filled the card passed 2g and now it's going all crazy. I tried an empty card I think anyway. I'll double check that when I get home. Can't believe there isn't another encoder that would work on that jog wheel. What a shame! It's truly a POS.

I came from Maschine then to the Octatrack which I still love for some things. However using Maschine made me realize I definitely don't want to be connected to the computer. Also I want the 2500 to be the "Brain" of my setup. Sequencing my synths and my modular synth etc. So no Ren for me!

update: removed quite a bit of stuff from the CF card and it appears to work now. Time will tell.

move the stuff off your cf and reformat it using the mpc and transfer them back.

Could be short term fool's gold but Deoxit worked wonders on my buttons. Time to dig in

Go to OTHER - is there an option for data wheel type on the 2500? If so, select the type that isn't currently selected.

I got the black jog wheel from mpcstuff.com and it works great. I had the same problem with my previous stock jog wheel.

Must be only the MPC1000 that had that specific problem. You may need a new encoder then

The data wheel is a on the 2500 is horrible compared to the 2000 but I found then when I am editing a sample I can use the Q-Link to actual scroll my start and end point instead of using the data wheel.
