I would agree but Pete Rock said he used to my make 10 beats a day!!
Scram Jones on the other hand.....well much from him has yet to be seen from him (he works on Triton and Motif a lot YUCK!!),but even so 17 tracks a day???

da ripper kinda alluded to 4-8 bar loops not being complete.. i try to keep my beats w/ a few variations but when i go back and listen to my favorites they are almost always 4-8bar straight loops.. but these are sample based and you're working w/ keyboards so..i just feel w/ hip ho pless is more much of the time..

I think it was Madlib who got everyone on this million tracks a day thing, his shit really is that quick, many times he'll just record a track and not save the files, and they master off a stereo cassette.

For most of these guys I think they say it as hype, they might do it, but talking about it is about making out that they are a production machine or whatnot, whereas madlib was just doing it cuz that's what he does, and he has the beat tapes to prove it.

I agree about the whole Madlib thing...but he is not the only one that makes music fast.As a sample based musician alot depends on how you work.Do you sit and just listen for ready made loops or do you cut and paste, or do you listen for specific sounds and then catalogue them and come back to them later? For me sometimes I might be liking the way a particular album sounds not really the music itself but maybe the way the instruments them selves sounds so I'll sit and listen for various bits and pieces like open stabs and sustained notes that I can later reconstruct into something completely diffrent.To me that is the glory of sampling.I can personally do a nice beat every half hour or so.Something else is that hip-hop or rap beats don't have to be anything particular if a guy makes a 2 bar loop and calls it a song than that is his speciffic vision for that piece nothing more nothing less.Most of hip-hop beats are nothing more than 2-8 bar loops with a sound dropping out here and there for effect.This is not classical music or R&B.Make it bang,make it bump and keep it moving but most importantly just make music...

Well yeah, but Madlib didn't even save the samples he took to make the song in many cases. That's hardcore.

madlib is too prolific, but lately the sound quality has been suffering as a result.

i agree with son above, i mean i COULD make 4 full beats a day but sometimes i just sit with a 4 bar sequence on loop for a while and see how i can make it better, but i usually end up with like 5 full complete beats a week

all them ****** talk about how many beats they make a day, the question is how many go on an album, and how many of the ones that reach the album are actually tight, there's a lot of okey dokey mothafukkkas in the Scratch magazine that don't impress me

I can make about 30 different sequences in a day but I end up doing 1 full song every 3 months

every body can make 1beat/minute and more
all depend of what you need to be satisfied of it!
persannalu, and icreate something, come back later, hear it, make some change, save it, come back later...to the moment i'm really satisfied

Its real simple peeps.... QUALITY is better than QUANTITY. I rather bang out lets say 2 hot joints every 7 days than come out with a bunch of mediocre stuff. You make better music that way and improve your skill. Dont deplete your resources ( samples, loops, etc ) instead make the best of them, its hard enough to come by good stuff these days.

a full track takes me AT LEAST a week to get all perfected. dunno bout yall...maybe i'm just slow.

there's no rules but it's sure it takes many hours, to get a perfect track, sounding nice and clear, and it takes a few minute to create a pattern on a drum box.
it depends too of what instrument you use
if you've a sampler, with many loops, it 's not the same than a drum box with separated instruments and synthetizers
