Why not just make different tracks that are different lengths and play them at once. I have 2 bar loops with 3 bar loops ect going, its pretty easy. If it has to be half a bar then you just simply cut and paste it to repete till its a common denominator of the loop chosen. So in case of a third of a bar you need to make 2 other copies after the third to make a bar then you make pattern or sequence to play at the same time.

I would support different track loop lengths.

Bliprock the work around you describe is basically how everyone works with the mpc, but it can be improved with different track loop lengths. Sure, you can copy your 2 bar patterns 16 times for the 32 bar track you want running next to it, but then next time you have a shorter pattern you have to stop and copy bars again, or play the 2 bars 16 times. Not a deal breaker, but not optimal.

I suspect that all tracks having the same number of bars is an mpc standard and perhaps many other functions rest on that, it may be a key to mpc stability. Then again maybe not and maybe it's easy. The best part is that the addition of this wouldn't stop you from using the old way, although I don't think many would unless it was implanted in a cumbersome way.

Err you did not understand me sorry. Maybe reread the whole thread, as I am talking about patterns in JJOSXL and making different lengths play at same time, with pattern to pad. I am not having to stop or edit. I am using something like clips. Shit I was doing vid and setting it up to do today, and now I gotta make a different length ones as well I see to illustrate. So the whole thing about 'supporting different track lengths' is redundant in this case. As I can play many tracks of different lengths at same time. So if you read all thread and start using the pattern to pad function you have the function you so wish to have. Its there you just gotta learn it elamcaco

+1 to TC of patterns !

Actually in the last few days I was thinking that I do not want it to use TC on patterns. I can hit it in time, so that is not the problem. Its just that if you made a groove, then there is not groove in that pattern if it is determined by TC. feel me peeps??? yeah probably not,
So would you like hours of groove making to just vanish when made into pattern, cos any othe TC will destroy your groove you made. Kinda seems pointless to me then to make patterns follow TC. This is not anything to do with timing of your patterns starting in time, thats your problem with timing and you just practice with playing imo.
Still so want cycle that BANK SELECT with footswitch as it is broken at the moment.

maybe i misunderstood... but you can play 2 separate sequences [each with one a different length of bars] simultaneously in JJOS1... so you can have say a 4bar drum loop playing on top of a 3bar sample loop... you just simply select the 2nd sequence you want to play simultaneously [where it says SS underneath the current sequence]... it even has it's own volume level as well. i'm not sure about jjosxl, but i don't see why this wouldn't also be available there.

edit: yeah, jjos2xl has it as well...

are you just waking up there crossings?? teehee.
Patterns kinda do act like simult sequence. THough remember patterns are tracks only not multiple tracks like a sequence. I do not know limit? what is pattern bank limit?? IO am up to 12 only as I erase and remake em as I go. but it seems like plenty there

that's why i'm saying you could essentially use sequences as patterns... my example mentions using a 4bar drum sequence with a 3bar sample sequence... you're limited to 2 simultaneous sequences, but it's as close as you're gonna get with JJOS.

Too true crossings. Another thing to note in difference is that the patterns can be played at any time and are not locked together, as in they both play in time but simult sequence always starts same time for both. PAtterns allows you to play any track at any time over your sequnce. Just saying so people know.

Here is a vid of the patterns in use. I have kept it real simple and used tekno as a illustration because it is pretty easy to hear the changes that are made to a static bass line. You can see I trigger all of them from same bank. There are 3 patterns of drums, using two separate programs (two on one program, and one on another different drum program). There is the two basslines sent to microkorg, one is an octave above the other, and as well as this there are more 2 more patterns for pitch bend on microkorg, and filter cut off and resonance sweeps on the microkorg as well. These last two (pitch bend, filter sweeps) have no note information at all. So if there is no bass you can not hear them, even if they are playing.

I should have hit the footswitch! At any time you can use foot switch to record this jam in real time, with no need to stop. :)

See that I go to another track that is set to arp, and use Qlink slider to change the TC value as it plays over the top in realtime. Thats something a few peeps aint sussed yet as well so I chucked that in.

I will repost it as another subject so that everyone can see patterns used like this more to write and play live as well.
