FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Akaiprompc.com wrote:Will MPC Software updates be available?
Yes. Software updates will be made available. The MPC Software will prompt you when updates are available. This pop-up prompt will tell you what version is available, and what version you currently have installed. You can also manually check for updates. On OSX, select the menu titled “MPC”, and select “Check For Updates…”. On Windows, select the menu titled, “Help”, and select “Check For Updates…”.

What formats is the MPC Software available in?
The MPC Software is available in Standalone and VST formats.

Does the MPC Renaissance work as a standalone sequencer?
No. The MPC Renaissance is a USB MIDI controller and audio interface for your computer, and is designed to work seamlessly with the included MPC software.

Where can I drop samples from?
Samples can be dropped into the MPC Software from the MPC Software, files on disk, of other programs.

How do I turn pad lights off?
The pads will light up different colors, depending on how hard you play them (ranging from yellow at a low velocity to red at the highest velocity). To disable (or re-enable) these lights, on the MPC Renaissance, press PAD ASSIGN then F6 (Velo Col).

Can I nudge beats?
Yes. All selected beats can be nudged. This is performed with a computer keyboard command. On OSX, hold Command and press left or right. On Windows, hold CNTL and press left and right. This will shift notes with relation to the currently selected TIME CORRECT value.

Is there a list of keyboard commands?
Yes. A list of keyboard commands is located on page 110 of the MPC Reference Manual

Can effect presets be saved?
Effect presets are saved on a project basis.

Will MPC Software be compatible with Rewire?
No. Currently Rewire is not supported.

Can I load MPC Samples, Programs, Sequences, and Songs?
Yes. File formats through the history of the MPC series can be loaded into the MPC Software. Files from the MPC60 to the MPC5000 will be compatible.

Will the MPC Renaissance burn CD’s?
The MPC Renaissance will not have a CD disk drive. The MPC software will export an Audio Mixdown in WAV, AIFF, and MP3 formats, which can be burned to a CD from your computer’s disk drive.

Can the MPC Software load instrument and Effect Plugins?
Yes. The MPC Software can load VST and AU instrument and effect plugins.

What Does the Vintage Mode button do?
Vintage Modes allow you can to choose an emulation of sonic qualities, for example, the MPC3000 or MPC60, or of course no emulation (None).

Can I use the MPC Renaissance and Studio with other programs?
Both the MPC Renaissance and Studio were designed to be controllers for the MPC Software. That said, you can use them in other programs but you will have to manually map it out in the other programs. Akai Pro will not be issuing any MIDI control templates for other DAWs and programs. If you do manually map things, a DAW with the learn feature in MIDI mapping mode will be easier to map than one without. You cannot change the MIDI note numbers and CC numbers that your MPC Hardware is assigned to.

Does the sample edit and chop window support snap-to-zero-cross editing?
Yes it does. This feature is enabled by default, and can be disabled in the MPC software page titled, “Sample Edit”.

Will I be able to use the MPC Software without the hardware connected?
No. The MPC Software’s functions are directly connected to the hardware. MPC hardware must be connected.

There are lots of new features in the MPC Hardware and Software, right?
Definitely! I’ll give you details on few of the new features that will be found in the MPC Hardware and Software. “Half Level” – like “Full Level” with a 127 velocity output. “Half Level” will allow a medium velocity output of 64. “Latch” – when activated this feature will permanently turn on “Note Repeat”, so that the Note Repeat button does not need to be held down. Q-Link Trigger – Holding this button, and touching one of the Q-Link knobs will make the parameter’s value jump to minimum and maximum values. These are just a few of the new features available. Akai Pro is excited for you to discover all the new features.

They should probably include AU in this part of the FAQ because if people don't see it mentioned elsewhere and aren't privy they may be turned away. I know there was a bit of confusion regarding RTAS also, so this is significant that they get their FAQ right in this respect. VST is not a catch all term for audio plug-ins. To a lot of people it entails plug-ins compatible with Steinberg products or those that use VST format plug-ins specifically. Pro Tools and Logic obviously, for example, do not use VST plug-ins and anyone using those platforms will not equate the term VST to mean AU or RTAS/AAX.

How do I convert my Song into a Sequence properly?

When you convert a song, the specific settings used in each track within the sequence, such as track type, MIDI channel setting, selection of the program, etc, will be set to the values that you set in the sequence in the first step of the song.

If the track setting of the sequence in another step is different from those in the first song step, the song may not be converted properly. To avoid this, it is better to make the track settings and the order of each sequence the same.

How many outputs are available when used as a VST/AU plugin?
The MPC software can route 8 stereo outputs to your DAW when used as a VST/AU plugin

Can you load multiple files at once?
Yes. You can drag-n-drop a folder full of samples into the Project Information window. All supported content will load to RAM.

Can I use a 3rd party audio interface with the MPC software?
Yes. In the MPC software Preferences, you can select the Audio Input and Output. It is possible to use one audio device as the input and another as the output.

Can the MPC software record audio tracks?
As of V1.0, audio tracks are not supported.

Can I used the Ren's hardware Main Volume knob to adjust the levels within the software?
The Ren's hardware Main Volume knob is an analog control. It adjusts the volume level of the STEREO OUT jacks. It is not designed to adjust the volume of the actual software.

So, if I open the MPC Software as a plugin in Logic Pro, I can then route 8 virtual stereo outs from the MPC Software into Logic Pro, and monitor those same outputs and everything is in perfect sync? Is this correct?

Yes, you can route 8 virtual stereo outs from the MPC software when it is used as a plugin within Logic Pro. The MPC Ren plugin syncs with Logic's sequencer.

Is there an easy way to use iTunes (AAC) files in the Ren/Studio software? The files will show up but they wont load in the software.

1. Enter iTunes General Preferences
2. Click 'Import Settings'
3. Set it to: Import Using Wav Encoder, 44.1 kHz, 16 Bit
4. Locate an AAC format song in your iTunes library
5. Right click song and select 'create Wave version'
6. You can now drag-n-drop or load the new version into the MPC software
