Problem with main outs

Hi i have something weird going on if i plug in the phones i get sound in both sides but if i plug into left or right channel i only get sound out of the left side. Very odd anybody have the same problems and how fix it?

wait, if you plug your headphones into the left or right you only get left?

if that is what you mean, that is because the headphone output is a stereo output and the left and right main outputs are mono... stereo is made up of two mono channels (one for left one for right) and on a stereo jack (ie: the one on your headphone cord) is a combination of both on one single jack.

Thanks for the quick reply man. I know how its work but it was doing the same on my mixer. i plugged the main outs into a multitrack (dp-01) and i get both sides. Guess i have to shop for a new mixer...

well explain further what exactly you mean and what you are doing...

your headphones will only let you hear out of both ears from the headphone output... none of the other outputs on the mpc will do that.

what if you flip the cables around? does the sound switch sides or does the same side stay muted?

What do mean by "stereo channel"? If you meant 2 channels used as a stereo pair just hard pan the first one all the way left and the second one all the way right if haven't already done that.

You need to plug your main outs left out into the mixers channel Input left, and the main outs right into your channel input right. Only use the headphone out when you are using a mono input on a mixer etc. so it will sum the left and right channels into one mono channel for you.

I highly recommend doing reading on how mono/stereo input & outputs work. Especially in relation to how it effects volume. I've solved some major issues for folks just by cleaning up their routing or turning a pan knob.

Basically if your using your headphone out (which is a mono summing of left & right) and plug that into one side of a stereo channel. Your gonna have both left and right channels from your MPC only on one side of the mixers left or right. It's easiest to think of stereo audio being dual mono sent to left and right speakers.

I appreciate the help guys but everything is fine. When i was talking about a stereo channel i meant just that. It has a L/R input for 1 channel and the right signal was non audible and when i pushed the levels it would just do clicks and pops. I tried all 4 of these stereo channels with similar results. Ended up sending each side to a seperate mono channel hard panned it worked. Kinda just jumped the gun figuring now way all 4 stereo channels of my mixer are shot. Its been unused for a few years now so could be some dust or something. Anyway all is well. thanks again
