Does having a screen that is twice as big, mean that you spend double the amount of time navigating around with the cursor?

I'm not a long time MPC user. But I really like getting away from the PC. An MPC feels like playing, as opposed to making music on a PC, which feels like programming.

I'd like to get an xlcd. But I'm kinda worried that it would make the MPC feel more like programming.

nope

qlink page/save and load, track mixer, record, GPE, pad mixer, system/midi sync/other, pattern bank, fx, seq edit, grid edit, step edit, and song mode : just have more real estate with no additional navigation.

main screen: shift+down/up moves you to and from the track mixer portion of the main screen
trim: the bottom portion of the screen functions as the EDIT section from previous os's. no more navigation is required than in previous os's - less, even, because you can do it all from one screen instead of two

Wow. I'm more interested now. I just don't think the 1000 screens look that nice

I've had the xl1000 screen for a few days, splashed out on the paid for os128xl also. These upgrades have been totally worth the expense. I would definitely say my workflow is faster now. The note repeat per pad has been a feature I've wanted for a long time, but it doesnt seem to always function as expected. Can somebody with mpc1000_128xl111.osl (latest OS128XL) check this for me to see if its human error, before I report it as a bug.

What I want to do for live performance is to have a break split into its individual hits in bank A, with bank B having 4 of these hits with different note repeat values (1/8 at bottom, 1/16 2nd row etc).

Whether I have a single sample split using the sample slice function or individual samples for each pad this doesnt completely work. Pads 2, 6, 10 and 14 in bank B wont repeat. Trying it in different banks gives different responses - pads 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 14 and 16 in bank C or D wont repeat, but bank A will repeat fine on all pads. This only appears to apply to standard repeat mode, not rep.hold or rep.solo which as much as I've tried works for all pads in all banks

Have not really been following up with news on the XLCD for quite some time now. Was going though the JJOS comparison chart today for the 2500 (http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/~mpc1000/mpc2500/chart.htm). I currently have the latest OS-XL but was considering getting OS128XL and the screen. What is the general consensus on loss of OS-XL features vs. the pros of the larger screen? I ask because my MPC has been sitting around doing mostly nothing since I bought it, so I don't want to start learning again on OS-XL if I'm going to get the XLCD+OS128XL. Do you guys believe features such as auto-chop are integral to the learning experience?

I thought all the missing features from OS128XL would have been implemented by now but it seems that's not the case.

Perhaps I should buy the XLCD now anyway and hold off buying OS128XL until the software is honed a bit?

learning os2xl will definitely help you learn os128xl if you move up to it, so don't stop yourself from using os2xl!

autochop is a pretty useless function compared to actually learning how to chop. i actually don't know anyone who uses/d autochop in jjos.

otherwise, just look at the features listed in the comparison chart. if they're things you think you need, keep working with os2xl. if not, dive into os128xl. currently, i am too dependent on the good new features in 128xl to go back to 2xl for the few that are not yet implemented.

In JJOSXL, I use auto chop more than I used to, I'll always give it a quick whirl on a drum break using the default 50+50 settings - on many breaks it does a decent job of locating all the individual hits, you just have to be prepared to tweak edit points a little, which doesn't take too long.
In other cases I find that starting off with manual editing is more intuitive or creative, so I'll use that. Whatever is working best depending on the task at hand :)

From my own perspective ive not missed anything, the os doesnt feel like its a work in progress- its a huge improvement with even better features to come. ive faith in jj that any features missing will either come eventually or he will come up with a more elegant alternative. I actually did use NDC, as a start before doing manual shifting to clean up the timing. The new way to chop samples, from within the program settings does pretty much the same thing but its faster and easier to do what you want with the bigger screen. A huge added bonus, no more sore neck from having to look down at the screen, its now tilted so i can see it far better!

But has anyone else tested the note repeat bug i mentioned above?

Thanks for the input. Just a bit cheesed that I paid the $123 for XL (and didn't end up using the MPC that much) and would have to pay full price for 128XL if I wanted it. Perhaps I'll just buy the screen and stick with XL for now until I see more improvements.

Any idea why JJ doesn't have an 'upgrade' or discount for XL users? I realise the software is supposed to be built from the ground up, but still!
