im really wanting to hook the mpk up to logic 9, control the sounds in there, and be able to play them into the sequence in the mpc, i cant really wrap my mind around it i guess, how would i set this up and what would i need?
Do you have an audio interface or do you just use your Mac's built in audio? You need at least 1 pair of MIDI Input and Output jacks. You can get a USB to MIDI cable for around $30
Here's an example -
http://www.zzounds.com/item--EMUXMIDI1X1TABThe scenario you're picturing would probably be the MPC as the MIDI master and Logic as the slave. One of the MPC's MIDI outs to the MIDI interface's in, and the MPC's MIDI in connected to the interface's MIDI out. Then you can switch it to Logic as the master if you ever want it that way.
Then you'd make as many MIDI tracks in the MPC as you have instruments loaded in Logic. You would tell Logic to receive the different MIDI tracks from the MPC using MIDI channels 1-16 and having A-D banks in each channel, basically you can send out 64 MIDI tracks if need be.
Of course you can have MPC programs with samples loaded at the same time as well. When properly synced over MIDI MMC/MTC (Machine Code/Time Clock) the MPC's transport controls will start and and stop Logic in sync with the MPC.
Here's the step by step -
http://www.akaipro.com/synclogicIf you have no audio interface I suppose you'll have to record the MPC's stereo outs to the Mac's 1/8" audio input. You'll need a stereo pair 1/4" to 1/8" single jack cable for that.
You'd get better results with a separate interface and if an interface has enough inputs you can use the 2500 8 outputs and assign individual sounds to their own outputs. Not necessary if you don't mind solo/muting your track elements to get the separate audio parts into Logic. You could also bounce a rendered WAV file of your song inside the MPC and use USB to drag that to the Mac. In that scenario you'd also rely on a lot mutes/solos to get the different tracks out.
