Hello guys,

nice forum as well, You are doing nice job!

I just bought oldschool rack sampler, Akai S2000 and have few problem. I'm DAW software user since 2003, and philosophy of creating beats, music is difrent in computer world than hardware.
My 1st question is bout Iomega Zip100 Drive.
I've got this unit with one diskette + data cable + charger. Everything looks ok, but when I push disk in to the drive, there is loudy "knock, knock" and nothings happen. When I'm tryin to format disk with my s2000, sampler is stuck with "searching for scsi drive" and needs to push POWER OFF to bring His to life [sorry for my silly english, hope you understand].

My 2nd question - is any pdf, video or book tutorial, step by step HOW TO create track using this machine? I mean, sampling process, chopping [its impossible with s2000?], maping samples, job with midi and sysex instructions, sequencing by DAW software by MIDI etc ? If yes, please give me some adress where I can buy it, or download [I'm germany based].

I want to sample old records, cut separate shots like kich, snare, hat, soe pads or basslines, and then, using midi and computer daw make a tracks..

Sorry for my silly english, I hope You understand ! Greats

the problem you are experiencing with the zip100 drive is called "click of death" ... this drive is garbage. You might want to stop using zip disks because this problem is always a huge risk.

you can use a DAW to sequence the s2000... in the s2000 you can sample some audio... edit the audio by trimming the samples. Then when you run the midi output from your audio/midi interface from the computer to the midi input on the s2000... you will be able to set up a daw channel to a midi channel (maybe midi channel 1 for example) and set the incoming midi channel also to 1... when clicking a key or note on the daw sequencer you should hear the sample play from the s2000 if everything is set up correctly. You must also have the audio output from the s2000 connected because midi does not transmit audio.

thanx so much mate, i just read about clicl of dead, it's realy ahrd problem, but zip drives are cheap nowadays so its not a big problem....

But, when I want to use HDD for s2000, what models should I try to find at ebay? I know that akai system used only 540mb of total space.

But I'm not sure aout scsi - how many pins, what's the point to find a proper hdd ??

there is a storage-world beyond zip drives and HDD ;)

Buy a MO-Drive and a few 127MB or 250MB MO disks and you'll be happy.
Berlin?
Kauf dir ein MO Drive und ein paarMO Disketten. Das ist auch ein SCSI Laufwerk aber 1000x sicherer als Zip drives.

peace

hey the s2000 doesn't have IDE at all.. right? Also.. the expansions are the same as the s3000xl? and the s3000xl doesn't have ide either?

not to go off topic in here.. never owned either of the two...

I always thought the s2000 jog wheel looked cool though.

The jog sucks! Same one on the dps12, the rotary floats inside the whole jog wheel so you can't spin it without grinding the wheel on inside of the encoder. If it was built better on the s2000 it might be more enjoyable.

ahh shame... I sort of figured that, it was a more budget model.

I'm back ;)

I bought scsi hdd for my s2000 and sampler doesnt recognise drive.
Any ideas guys?

I saw TERMINATOR at the back of the drive :>

Switch the TERMINATOR to ON.

More details of the HD you purchased may be needed if that doesnt work?

Make, model, capacity, internal or external?
