Hello everybody,

First of all, Praise the MPC!!! After having doubt for a long time and working
with other gear I Finaly bought an MPC1000 this week and man....... IT KILLS!!
Thank god for the MPC!!

I have a question About a midi technique.

When I make a drum track I can cut off/stop the previous sample with the next sample/trigger. So only 1 hit/trigger is recorded in the sequencer. Not layered or overlapping in the same track. Can I do this with midi aswell?

Im using an MPC1000 with JJOS 2xl 3.13

My appologies if this is a dumbass beginner question! :)
Thanks!

Hi Wolfje, what do you want to do with midi?

Normally, if the polyphony (simultaneous notes playing at one time) is set to 1 (monophonic) each midi note cut the previous one off.

Good luck.

I've put about all the poly's to mono's that I could find in the MPC! :)
It seems to work on 1 pad but not on/in a track.
Pad1 (midi) should stop when Pad2 (midi) is triggered. In the same track.

Yes, I saw that program option but it only works for a drum track I think.
I only get 1 pad to be mono, but when I use this with another pad in the same
track they become Poly together, the overlap.

But With all this info Im really close to the the solution.
Thanks Bathmutz!!

Yes the MIDI notes are not set to mono if program is set to MONO
That is for programs voices sampler wise. Mono or poly.
Learn to write in mono with midi. JJOSXL is made for it, just practice.
Use grid edit window, its what it is for, to sequence, and you will see the note overlap very easily. Use edit function to set a notes duration to suit. Mode + Pad 13.
Sample the MIDI devices output and make a mono INST program with it.
Most monosynths and the like usually can handle a few notes at once and just plays the latest note sent to it.
Use loop edit in drum mode to, and still send to midi channle to write mono stuff.

innovine wrote:Just set both pads to the same mute group, then one will cut off the other.
It will not for midi, and that is what OP is talking about, hence what I wrote above.
If you set mute targets it will work with samples but not with midi. If you set a mute group or target and make a bassline it will overlap the notes.
Try it yourself, but make sure you set duration to as played and it will overlap, even set to mono, as this is for sample voice overlap, not midi.

Thanks guys! This is exactly the problem/thing I'm working on/arround.
Indeed Bliprock, I'm able to edit the duration on the midi notes.
But the workflow isnt that funky! :) And maybee more important for live aplications,
I cant do Mono note repeats on a midi track the same way as a DRUM track.
hmmm.... Maybee something for a new JJOS?
:)
But hey, thanks a lot for sharing your knowledge with me!!
Much appreciated!! Thanks!

I have 3 monosynths and they all work with note repeat fine live. o you get a hung midi note, that can happen. But that is more the device than the mpc. In fact some mono synths actually use overlap notes for portamento.
