how do i get cubase sx to stop recording when the my mpc2000xl... stops playing... iam multracking the slow way... by soloing one track at a time in song mode..... till i get a sound card with 8 ins...
.
.
anyways...

i got cubase and my mpc to sync nicely... the only problem i have is... that my cubase continues to record silence.... after the mpc has finished playing....
.
.
i want to be able to walk away from the pc and o other things... why cubase records.... i don't want to have to come back to 1000 bars of silence... to cut... thats silly and a waste of time...
.
.
SO....HOW DO I GET CUBASE TO STOP RECORDING WHEN THE MPC STOPS PLAYING

If you're using the mpc as master, you can set it to send Midi Machine Control. Cubase should start and stop the same time as your MPC this way. You can set it in the same screen as MTC (shift-9).
If that doesn't work, you could try setting something like punch-out in Cubase itself, although i haven't tried this myself.

ok...as far as recording... i have the mpc as master...

everything is set... in the cubase transport field... sync is selected and lit...

now i press the record button in the cubase transport field... now cubase is waiting for me to press play on my mpc...so that it can be recording...

.
.
i press play start on the mpc...

cubase begins... instanteously... instead of recording cubase unlights the record button... and the play button stays lit...

therefore... nothing is recorded... not even silence gets recorded...

how can i get cubase to hold that record function instead of flipping to the play function.....

Bummer.

Do you have Midi Machine Control set on both the MPC and cubase?

Sick!

You're right, it doesn't work. Must be a bug of some kind. Sorry for feeding you bad tips. Did you try using puch in/out?

I just tried it. It works over here. But i'm in a different timezone, so maybe the timecode on your side of the Atlantic is a bit F&cked up

Seriously, you have to use the MPC as master. In the right side of the sync screen, set Midi Time Code to sent at 25 fps.. Set MMC to "on".
Deselect "master" in Cubase, and make sure sync is on. Set it to recieve MTC 25fps and MMC in the sync setup dialog.
Go into songmode on the mpc. Start with inserting a blank 4-bar sequence. The insert all the sequences you want to recor, and the number of times you want to repeat ech one. Go back to the main screen, and mute all the tracks but the one you want to record.
Arm a track in Cubase and hit play on the mpc, Cubase will play along but it wont record yet. Before the end of the first 4-bars, hit record on the Cubase transport bar. Now you'll be recording something.
As soon as the song is finished, the mpc will stop and cubase should stop by itself.
If none of this works, sell your computer and go to the pub.

There is a slight bug in the MPC2000XL regarding sending MMC. Well, it has an easy work around so it is considered `slight`.

For the MPC to send MMC, you also have to send an output sync signal whether you are using it or not. In other works, of output sync is set to OFF it does not work correctly.

Typically sequencers are slaved to recording devices since a recording device will maintain a sample rate resolution and derive it's sync signal from that. Example: Recorder is set to send MTC, MPC set to slave to MTC, MPC sends MMC, recorder receives MMC. Arm the recorder and place in standby, then use the MPC to start/stop the recorder. In this situation, the MPC actually sends MMC to the recorder but does NOT start itself. It will start when it receives a sync signal. This is a nice, robust design.

and all this time i was thinking that cubase would be smart enough to start recording automatically... thanks for this info...so i basically have to prompt cubase(push red button) to record before the end of the 4 bars...

Yeah! It should start automatically, but it doesn't. Just give it a try like i described and you'll be fine.

@ MPC3000: Slight bug huh? It took me 3 days to figure it out. One question though: Why aren't you working for Akai? You sound like the perfect candidate to write a new OS for the 2000xl.

"Why aren't you working for Akai? You sound like the perfect candidate to write a new OS for the 2000xl"

I've tried to get a job at Akai, but no luck so far. OS development is done in Japan, software like ak.sys is done in UK, and nothing for me here in the US.

I am working on a project outside of Akai, though.
