Below are audio samples from the MPC 3000 and the MPC 3000 emulation. These audio files were recorded from the analog outs of the MPC Ren and MPC 3000 into Pro Tools 10 via a Universal Audio Apollo audio interface.

Test#1 Results (20 participants):
40% of the forum members participating (8) correctly selected MPC Y as the MPC 3000.

60% of the forum members participating (12) incorrectly selected MPC X as the MPC 3000.

MPC Renaissaance is:

MPC 3000 is:

**EDITED**
Test #2
This is my second test using a break beat per the request of MPC Forum members. I will reveal the MPC models at the end of the test (20 votes).

MPC X: http://soundcloud.com/jahrome-1/mpc1-x

MPC Y: http://soundcloud.com/jahrome-1/mpc1-y

could you elaborate on the sampling method? did you just rip the audio from CD/MP3 for the Ren example or did you sample it using Ren hardware inputs? what was the source for the MPC3000 sampling? what level did you sample it on? such variables could really null the neutrality of such a test not to mention probably not the best idea to use a sample of a song already produced on a MPC3000 to begin with

(FIRST COMMENT DELETED BY MPC-TUTOR - completely unnecessary to add that first line to your post, purely made to start an argument).

How about revealing details about the source audio, assuming it's not a mp3, and then share the non processed clip so that I can stick it into an s3200 and/or someone else can put it through their renny and mpc3k to validate your test... (really the same audio interface should be used for both... meaning a renny and mpc3k user should do this, not me)
.... a proper test should cover at least... transposition, and analog saturation comparisons.

also like i said "still dre" was produced on a mpc 3000 so sampling it inside ren kind of cheats the test to begin with.. an impartial sample like a breakbeat or anything pre-90s would have been a much more neutral choice imo..

  !

Also people voting may not know what a mpc3000 sounds like.

Also the test should have a poll option for "they sound the same". If the hardware mode is really on the 3000 level there should be no difference, neither should be more 3000 sounding.

I'll listen to this with proper speakers and cast my vote...

^^^ This 100%

Anybody with any idea of setting up a "scientific" test would know this test is ridiculous using the samples you posted.

The only way to objectively do this is to start with samples, from vinyl and/or synths and/or instruments and build a beat from scratch.

You've just demonstrated that your opinion shouldn't really be considered on this topic. Anyone who's done any basic form of scientific study would tell you the same.

Yet you are the most vocal, opinionated person on this forum when it comes to this subject. I only make this point to help others realise your opinion shouldn't be take into account.

People who know what they are talking about should. No hard feelings man. It's just necessary in the pursuit of objectivity.

PERSONAL INSULT REMOVED BY ADMIN. That was unnecessary.

Right who else has an MPC3000 and a Ren who's willing to set up this test exactly how everyone is demanding it be set up?

And there is no need to end your posts with a personal dig at the OP. Completely unnecessary and completely undermines any point you were trying to make. But it's perfectly fine to express an opinion that you feel the test hasn't been set up correctly, and the OP has to accept that. But just make your point and move on.

What you are hearing is an identical sample in both the MPC Ren and 3000 chosen because of it's sonic characteristics and most people's familiarity with it. What instruments Dr Dre used to compose this song is irrelevant as both MPCs are using the same source. This test only compares the output of the MPC 3000 with the output of the MPC Ren while in the MPC 3000 vintage mode. The analog output of these MPCs were connected to a UAD Apollo interface using the same cables. Pro Tools 10 was used to capture the audio recorded at 0 db.

Note - This test does not include the sonic characteristics of the AD converters of these MPCs. That would be a completely different test as there is no indication that the MPC Ren vintage mode emulates legacy MPCs on input.

I don't think a hip hop beat is a good example. Those drums were already ran through a MPC 3000.

Use something like this....Sample the 4:24 mark. Then you got a test.
